She told me to ingest real sugar and no artifiial sweeteners.  I attempted that this weekend and the dumping was so bad, I vomited on the side of the road.  I can't do plain water, or plain decaf coffee.  What are ya'll's opinions of artificial sweeteners??

I refused to use artificial sweeteners, I drank a LOT of water, and juice. Every now and then I would have a little pop too. I am a non dumper though so the pop did not bother me. I also ate real sweets. I just have/ had a huge fear of the possible side effects on the baby.

I do use artificial sweetners.  My dr does not have a problem with it.  I do also eat stuff with real sugar in it but when it come to what I drink, the flavorings that I do use in my water have artificial sweetners in them.  I think that if you dump really bad on real sugar then you should just use Splenda.  I know alot of people on the board use that.

Stevia is natural. It's "new" here as a sweetener but has been used here for years as one but sold as a diatary supplement. It's also been used all over the world as one. For Kool-aid, take one packet and add 6 packets of stevia. Depending on taste, (and flavor) you can adjust it. Lifewater has it in it and the Crystal Light line has it. I forget which one.

Stevia is one of the better artificial sweeteners cuz it doesn't have any of the bad chemicals that OB's don't want us to have.  However it does change the flavor of the foods/drinks you put it in.  I use Truvia... no bad chemicals and it doesn't change the taste.  I buy it in packets for my coffee (half caffeine) in the brand "Sweet Leaf."  It's pretty good and it's good for you.

Splenda has almost the same high count on the glycemic index as sugar does.  I think it's only 6 points lower than sugar.  So why bother with splenda.  I'm a Truvia girl.

Oh please @@. This is why WLS and pregnancy do not mix well because no 2 Dr's can ever be on the same page. As long as you are not using like 15 packets a day of anything, you should be fine.

Thank you guys so much, yes I certainly must do artificial sweetners.  I hate it but drinking sugar always makes me dump.  Unless it's low sugar OJ.  I don't take anything in mass quantities.  I do have some truvia at home, but I never use it.  Will start doing that.  My main thing is sugar free crystal light, and sugar free hawaiin punch flavor powders for flavoring water.  Those just make me able to drink.  And I drink things like Life Waters, and Vitamin Water Zero's and if I didn't have those, I would be worse dehydrated than I am now.  i hope my lil baby will be ok, but  I have been really good about not taking much medicine, only took tylenol once since pregnancy.  And I take my thyroid meds.  So far baby is healthy:)

I still drink Diet Cokes!  My MD doesn't have a problem with artificial sweetners as long as it is in limited quantities.

I'd personally avoid stevia in pregnancy because I have read it can effect hormones.  It's not recommended for individuals trying to conceive.

I'd stick to minimal amounts of artificial sweeteners if you must have them.  Can you do lemon or lime water?

Anything in moderation as I think most people have also said. I do know of some doing all sugar,no sweetners - whateve works for you. If it's not working, don't worry about the occassional sweetner. I drink diet cokes occassionally and also add sweetners to drinks - such as crystal light to my waters.
