As though I never had WLS at all??
Hi ladies-
I'm not new to OH, but I'm new to this forum. I'm almost 10 months out from my RNY and my husband and I are hoping to start TTC in August (I will be approx 15 months out from my WLS at that time). I'm trying to do some research and soak up as much knowledge about pregnancy after WLS as my brain can hold. My surgeon firmly recommends we wait 18 months after surgery to TTC. He said (in his experience) when women get pregnant before 18 months, it's as though they never had the weight-loss surgery at all... and end up gaining most of their weight back. My question is... is this just a scare tactic? Or is there some truth to what he said? I'm 35 now and was hoping to begin TTC before I turn 36, but I want what's best for my body, as well as my future child. Any answers or advice you can give me is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much!!

Well, I got pregnant about 17 months after surgery, so I can't say for sure. But what it seems like is that it slows down you weight lose. I know I can definitely eat more now than I could before I got pregnant, so I think it would just be that much more challenging if you didn't have good habits in place and a lower weight to start from.
Just my opinon.
Just my opinon.
It usually (but no always) takes a few months of TTC to get pregnant anyway. If I were you, I would start at 15 months out. took me 4 months to get pregnant. and most dr's recommend 12-18 months, so that's right around there.

My Dr gave me an OK when I was 15 months out and at 19 month out I was pregos.Im had lost all my weight though that I wanted.I'm 18 week tomorrow and having twins I have gained 22 pounds and still have tell July to go well due date is August 8th but wont make it that far.Im already measuring about 25 weeks.I have gain no weight but in my belly really round.I eat just as I ate before getting pregnant but just for frequent about every 3 hours.I have no choice I need enough for me and two babies.Eating for me is a chore and I hate it I think it will be easy to get the weight off after but I also have that stuck in my head to.
I dont think that the time frame matters as much as the habits formed....I became pregnant 2yrs after WLS ans did gain and have had a much harder time losing the weight...I can def eat more now than before and i formed some bad eating habits while pregnant such as eating things with more sugar or more carbs....So as long as you stick to your guns and do the right things you should be ok.......
Thanks so much for your responses and congrats on your little ones (double congrats to you, Jennifer -- my husband is a twin, so I have a special place in my heart for them)! You all have made me feel much better about my decision to begin trying in August. Do you think it'd be a good idea to lower my goal to give me some cushion (no pun intended) in case I have a difficult time getting any baby weight off? Maybe I'm over-analyzing this... I just want to be prepared (is there such a thing??).
Thank you again!!

I WISH I had been at goal when I got pregnant. I got pregnant after ONE act of unprotected sex on my honeymoon! It took me ONE time and was totally unplanned, and a huge surprise. And I am 29 and never had kiddo's. I wi**** took me time to get pregnant. My ob told me my goal needs to be how NOT to get pregnant. Anyway, my weight was up from the honeymoon eating and then holiday eating. I was at 178 :( This is 20 lbs larger than my lowest. And now I have an irrational fear of gaining at 13 weeks. My doc told me I was safe to gain 25-35 but the thought of being over 200 lbs again makes me want to crawl under a rock. I am already around 182. So YES I would get to goal, but I see you are 153, that is tiny in my book, and would have been my goal. But I am 5'7 and large framed. Good luck getting pregnant :)
