what to expect before you're expecting...

I've been browsing this book on and off for a few months...just trying to get as much info as I can so when hubby and I TTC, I can be as prepared as much as possible.

Last night I read one part that talked about diet and what not...something that caught my attention was that an unbalanced diet decreases fertility (obviously), however the book specifically mentions that diets high in protein and low in carbs/fats really throw off your body and can effect fertility.

Maybe I'm reading to much into this, but it has me a little worried.  Post-op we are pretty much brain washed, PROTEIN,PROTEIN,PROTEIN...so now I'm thinking that 60-100grams of protein daily could make TTC more difficult, ugh!

Has anyone else come across/heard this???

Yes. It is important to add fruits and veggies once you are pregnant. I'm not sure how important it is beforehand. Just that Ketosis can cause brain damage in a developing fetus.

Yes, by the time you plan to TTC, it does not hurt to add in more of the GOOD carbs. I was already over a year out when I got pregnant, and I was already adding all the good one in anyway. In the beginning I had a real hard time keeping my blood sugars up due to the lack of Carbs, so I added in some of the bad ones as well just to get the levels up fast.

The diet might have an effect on it somewhat, but from everything I have seen, losing weight greatly increases your chances of getting pregnant. Many get pregnant even using some form of birth control.

boy oh boy does WLS increase fertility!!  I am living proof!  but yes as previous folks have said, increase your good carbs, and fruits and veggies are SO IMPORTANT!!

Dont worry, I completely believe your baby has a way of telling your body what he needs. (ie; cravings) ** THIS IS NOT ME SAYING ITS OK TO EAT CHALK, DIRT, ANYTHING ELSE WEIRD!!**

But just keep a close eye on BALANCING what you eat....you will be fine.
