Induction

So I found out yesterday that my doc wants to induce me at 39 weeks next Friday. The medical reason being that I have non-iron deficiency anemia and also simply because I am a post WLS patient (duodenal switch to be exact).  Any thoughts or concerns? He seems to think the benefits outweigh the risks. My original due date is 3/17 so this will be six days early.

I don't know much about anemia- I had some mild issues when I was pregnant...and I had RNY not DS but I don't see what either of those issue have to do with needing to be induced.  Lots of inductions end up in c-sections (which may not have been needed if baby came on their terms?). C-sections cause some mothers to feel cheated, to feel like less of a woman, have lost the bonding of birth,  and / or traumatized... My c-sections didn't make me feel that way but I may be the odd one out.  If he's your Dr and you have trusted his care and judgment this far so-- the most I can really say is good luck and you will be holding your baby very soon.

The WLS reason seems bogus to me, and after a quick google search I can't find any reason to induce b/c of animia. I think you have have to weight the pros and cons and decide what you are comfortable with, some women have smooth inductions but many do not with them ending in c-sections.

I think it sounds a bit bogus as well, but maybe he wants it to be "controlled" incase of bleeding issues with your anaemia.  - just a guess. I think that 6 days early for induction is not an issue, as baby should be ok. Maybe you could ask someone from Rabkin's team (I know he has such a good reputation).
