pregnancy after sleeve?!?
Hi everyone!
I just got my surgery date today and while we were there, my husband asked how long after surgery we had to wait to TTC. My doctor said since I am having the sleeve (which has no malabsorption), pretty much anytime would be ok for me to get pregnant but it would be ideal for us to wait at least 6 months. To me, 6 months this seems a bit soon! I was wondering what you all thought!
Thanks

I just gave birth to my post-WLS baby last week.
He was a total surpise since I had an IUD in place when I got pregnant I was only 9 month post op at the time but the pregnancy was super easy.
My little guy was born exactly on his due date weighing 8.8 lbs. I gained a total of 20 lbs the entire pregnancy and lost 17 lbs within 48 hours of giving birth. I'm now down -5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight and doing great, even nursing has been a breeze.
6 months sounds way too soon. Even at 9months, eating was a challenge. I basically stuffed myself every 3 hours just to maintain my weight. I can't imagine how hard it would have been at 6 mo.
Honestly I would wait until you're at or close to your goal weight before trying to get pregnant, it's the best thing you can do for yourself and your future baby.
Good luck

My doc gave me the go ahead to TTC at 12 months because of my age, he would prefer 18 months at least. Right now, we are TTC unofficially, until out wedding in May then it's "game on" for TCC, we figure that if I do get PG that I won't be showing and it won't change the way I look in my wedding gown.
Thanks all for the replys. I thought 6 months might be a bit soon... hoping to lose about 130 lbs or so... that's for my own goal... surgeon would be happy with a 110 lb loss. However, my husband got all excited because part of the reason why I am having surgery is because we were having such trouble TTC due to my weight.
Its all kinda depending on you and your weightloss. I can eat WAY more than I could before getting pregnant. Kinda scares me but I am just hoping it is the hormones like they say. But I was not "normal" with my eating til 4-6ish months out of surgery. Closer to the 12 month mark is what was healthier for me. I had been pretty stable with my weight and my vitamins were all at the right levels. Get you healthy first then start working on the baby front IMO.
