Here it is, now who knows if the timeline is accurate, but it shows how easy it is to get distracted and how fast things can go from fine to bad!

It was a sad day that he will never forget. I still cry when I talk about it.

My son is 5 now and takes showers by himself, but I am never far away...
But when he was younger and he was bathing and I had to get up for something I always made him sing his ABC's so I knew he was okay....but we are also talking just long enough to grab a towel from the hall closet or a set of clothes from his bedroom...but I would say he was at least 3 by then too....

Why even take the chance?  I didn't let my daughter take a bath by herself until she was about 5 or so and even then I would check on her every couple of minutes or so.  She got really quite one time and I yelled for her and she didn't answer and I went flying in there and she was on her back with her hair under the water just floating and couldn't hear me.  I thought I was going to have a heart attack.  It only takes a second for something to happen and then you have to live with it for the rest of your life.  To me, it's just not worth it.

NO! It just takes a second.  I've even heard of near drownings where the parent was IN the bathroom.  The child can fall backwards and aspirate water into their lungs in an instant.

No way in hell!  By the time the caregiver noticed she was too quiet, the child could easily be dead.  Don't let your DH bathe her if he thinks it's OK to even step out for a second.  Seriously, at that age, even walking down the hall to grab a towel quickly is probably a bad idea.  Babies sink like stones.

There was a terrible case a couple years ago where a mom left a baby about that age in the tub and then got online - the baby drowned and the mother swore it had only been a couple minutes.

No!!!  Last year my grandfather was burned and in a burn center. While I was there visting one day, they brought in a 16 month old that was left alone for less than 2 minutes.  The phone rang and her mother ran in the other room just to get the cordless phone and come back.  Before she could get back, the baby turned on the ho****er and it scalded both of her little feet.  You never know what can happen!

I am remembering a terrible story I read about a little girl who turned the ho****er on and was scalded to death.

I am a social worker at CPS. If a baby was hurt by being unattended in a bathtub it would be considered neglect. Maybe your husband would benefit from a parenting class? That is what I court order many of my clients to do, to learn how to safely provide for their babies/kids needs. Maybe he would be open to taking one with you?
Good for you for not letting this one go, you are being a protective parent :)
