Our LONG birth story
Well, it's only 3:30 in the morning and just finished a feeding session with little man. Since it's quiet and he's back asleep in the nursery and I'm WIDE awake- why not share out story?! Here it is...
On Saturday, I was having lots of low back pain, contractions and had lost my mucus plug sometime over the night after having reg contractions for a few hours before bed on Friday night. Got checked into my room around 3pm. Check showed I was between a 1-2 and contractions were showing up, but I wasn't feeling any of them. My BP was elevated and they kept me to check and recheck. It refused to come down and around 7 the Dr came in and decided that due to my BP she was ready to start my Pitocin and monitor my vitals The IV went in and around 9 they started the Pit drip. He was doing well, but around 3ish they came in and put me on oxygen. His heart rate was having dips after contractions. I still wasn't experiencing any of the contractions except in my low back...it was horrific! They checked me and I has advanced to 4cms, 80% and he was still a -2 to -3 stage. They stopped the Pit and waited for the Dr. I got the joy of listening to the lady down the hall scream her lungs out for about 20 minutes while delivering her little boy. Dr came and checked me, same progress. She wanted to monitor me without the Pit to watch my contractions...that I still wasn't feeling other than back pressure. He did manage to come down to a definite -2, so she broke my water around 7am. The back labor got significantly worse shortly after that. I was having a lot of pain, so dr came back in a few hours later to check. Nothing much changed but I had thinned out completely. Dr gave me the choice of getting an epi or a spinal with a C. She felt that with my thinning out and all, an epi might be the way to go. I decided to give it the one last try. Got my epi, waited 2 hours, recheck and I had progressed to a 6-7, but he still wasn't coming down and had developed what they call a cap from the pressure pushing him down, but his inability to move further into my pelvis. Dr gave me another hour and said if no drop, we were going to go C because of his reactions to the Pitocin. Recheck at 7 showed no change at all and I said enough. My husband decided that he wanted to give his spot in the OR to my mom because he had the experience of watching the 2 girls be born and since this was my first and last, he felt she needed to be at my side. He's so my rock, but he knew my mommy was what I needed in there to be brave :) LOVE this man!! We went to the OR and at 7:26 (1926 military time..my bday is Sept 26th hehehe) Landen was brought into the world. He let out a pathetic little cat cry, was raised up so I could see him and then he exercised those lungs and started wailing LOL!! On the way to recovery after getting my tubal done and being stapled up, they wheeled me past the girls..it felt so good to see their sweet faces and the joy and sparkle in their eyes...they had been so worried about me and we shared some tears to reassure them I was good and would be seeing them in just a few. After about 40 mins, they took me to my room and then brought him to me shortly thereafter...
Saying hello to my baby boy for the first time..
Proud daddy
