C-Section Moms: When to start exercise?

I had my c-section a month ago and feel pretty good. My incision is still a tiny bit tender, but it doesn't keep me from getting around and doing what I need to do. It looks fully healed from the outside.

I'm really eager to start exercising again. I have heard that I need to wait 6-8 weeks, but that seems like an ETERNITY! I don't plan on doing sit-ups or anything that involves excessive abdominal strain, but I really want to start doing SOMETHING to get this ball rolling. Especially since I still have one month of maternity leave left... I'd like to make good use of my time off.

Thanks a bunch!

I wouldn't do anything more than careful swimming and brisk walking or something similar to that until after 6 weeks.  Even after that, take your time because your body's been through a lot.  At about a month out from my c-sec in December, I pulled something in my incision area just by lifting three pounds more than I was advised to lift!  I felt fine but obviously I wasn't back to normal yet.

If you are still having postpartum bleeding at all, I would also avoid serious exercise until that's totally done.  I know most women are done by a month but I'm one of those lucky women who gets 6 weeks of postpartum bleeding.  Haha.

I just drove my car for the first time in SIX WEEKS today! LOL! It was so weird. My postpartum bleeding stopped a couple of days ago. Thank GOD. That sucked!

Best new mommy exercise, imo?  Stalking baby clearance at Target 2-3x a week!

I was told no excersizing until after my 6 week appt. Except for walks and even with that to take it easy. Also after the 6 wks to get into excersize routine slowly.

Wow a month already!

I know, right?! Time certainly does fly. I guess I'll stick with walking until I'm in the clear.

I had a VB, and I am still not allowed to exercise till my 6 week appointment. So I would say the same would go for a c section.

Wait another week or so. I stupidly signed up at Golds Gym 3 weeks post partum, and headed straight for the treadmill. 10 minutes later (powerwalking) I was hemmoraging and my stitches were coming out in the toilet. And that was a regular vaginal birth.

LOL I was 19 and thought I knew everything. Plus, I was anxious to find my butt again. It was not a pretty sight and the Gold Gym staff made me bring a Dr note before I came back. They said if they knew I was only 3 weeks post-partum they would have never let me sign up. Whoops...guess I forgot to add that to the paperwork :)
