For those who have experience, how can you tell if what you are feeling is normal?

I am 26 weeks and can't tell if I am having braxton hicks, cramping, contracts etc.  It's so frustrating.

From what I understand, braxton hicks is basically tightening of the stomach.  Well my stomach gets tight then loosens but its always in different places.  Sometimes its above my belly button to the right, other times its lower and to the left.  Is that the baby pushing on me or braxton hicks.  Its been happening lots today and my OB told me if if happens often that is not normal.  I also had a couple of pretty strong cramps/shooting pains - once on the right side and once in the middle.  Kind of took by breath away.

I called my OB and spoke with one of the nurses and she said if I wanted to come in I could, but if I was not having any bleeding, unusual discharge etc. then it is probably normal.

Hoping those who have experience can help out.

When in doubt, go and get checked. Certainely, increasing water can help get rid of cramping, but there are a lot of other (mostly just fine) reasons to have cramping. I say if after increasing water and resting you don't feel a whole lot better, go in. Keep us posted.

Is this your first pregnancy? I was having what felt like sharp cramps that lasted a few seconds and then would subside. I thought it was the baby pulling on something or shoving my organs around. It turned out to be contractions, and I just didn't know what I was feeling!
