Aiden - GI Check-Up
I wanted to post that Aiden had his follow up appointment with his GI doctor post his procedures in December and he is doing great. They are leaving him on the Nexium for now as he is just now starting to really gain weight, the throwing up is completely under control so they don't want to mess with anything. They want to let him enjoy eating for a bit before rocking his world!
At 10 months, they will see him again and we will discuss starting to try to ween him off the reflux meds to see if he has outgrown his reflux and/or if he can tolerate a lower dose of medication.
Aiden is on stage 1 type foods (he eats carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, bananas, apple sauce, peaches). That is all that has been introduced so far. We do have to wait the three days before introducing any new foods. He did throw up more with bananas for some reason. We have had to take the transition to solid foods much more slower than normal.
He still is on soy formula and will be until after his skin test at 11 1/2 months to see if he has outgrown the lactose intolerance, as the 95% of babies do by the age of 1. If he is still allergic at 11 1/2 months, he will be retested at five years old as that is when those babies that still test positive at 11 1/2 months tend to outgrow it (or it get substantially better) if they are going to. We still have to put rice cereal in his bottle as a thickener so he doesn't throw up all the bottles due to straight liquids irritating his reflux.
The more solid foods he gets the better he has been doing. So, right now we are on a holding pattern until 9-10 months when we start testing liquids with no thickener to see if it is better and then he will have a swallow study if not.
Just thought I would update for those who were interested. I put one of his 6 months pictures below but you can go to my profile to see all of them. Those of you on FB have seen them :)

tracy- im glad hes doing so much better... im not sure if you knew or not.. jayson had some serious reflux also... fortunally he didnt need medication or the procedures.. i remember him projectile vomiting in his sleep and really every bottle he drank.. i had to make his milk so thick like pancake syrup.. anyway... hes now 2 and mostly over it... he still has his occasional "wet burp" .. when it came time for real milk he wouldnt tolerate it.. not because of an allergy but because his tummy tum just didnt want it those liquids that thin.. i found that the lactaid was a bit thicker then the whole milk and that seemed to do the trick... i know you have a long way until this point.. but wanted to let you know... he so freakin handsome
I'm glad Aiden had a good check up. Hopefully they'll just keep getting better from now on.
Re the bananas....I have never had reflux as bad as Aiden has..but back in the day when I had it several times a day (pre WLS)...bananas were NOT my friend. I don't know why they trigger heartburn and reflux...but they were often torture after eating them. That may be one trigger food he either grows into being able to eat...or just has to be careful eating for a long time. If bananas tends to be one of a few foods he can't eat...I'm sure you'll be happy with that.
You know I think your little man's gorgeous - and I'm so glad he's feeling better, which makes you and J feel better too!
