Hello to all the ladies that I know and don't for that matter :)

I am looking for advice on the Paraguard IUD from those of you who have had one before. Did you have any problems? Did you love/hate it?

I know everyone is different, just trying to get a few different takes before I schedule for mine.

Any kind of hormonal BC is out for me! Thanks!

Hi. I had the Paragard for over a year and loved it. It did hurt a big going in but it was over in 5 seconds. My periods were heavier for a few months. But I liked it because it had no hormones and didn't cause mood swings or weight gain. Removal was totally painless. I will be getting another one soon after this baby :) I recommend one to anyone who *****es about birth control.

Thank you for responding. My biggest complaint is def hormonal BC. I am so nervous about it being put in, thus being the reason I still keep finding a million excuses not to. So is it really painful or just uncomfortable? I am such a baby about it but had to babies naturally- go figure! LOL

They need to open your cervix a little to insert it, so it is almost like a labor contraction. Then some slight cramping for a couple hours. I took tylenol an hour before I got there. I was so afraid of the pain that I think the anticipation made it worse than it actually was. But that one tylenol was all I needed. If you have had 2 natural deliveries then you can definitely handle an IUD, no problem. It only hurts for about 5 seconds. It was definitely worth it, IMO.

Oh forgot to add, they will only put it in while you have your period.

I had the Paraguard IUD put in after I had my 2nd child. The insertion was not too painful. Kinda uncomfortable and I got a bit lightheaded. I loved it for about 2 years. I ended up starting to have really heavy periods. Like heavy enough where I was needing to get blood transfusions every couple of months. I was truly miserable. I finally had it removed after having a 33 day period that showed no signs of stopping. My period ended less than 72 hours after removal and I have been normal and regular since. I have had several friends who had similar experiences with it. But, everyone is different. This was just my experience.
Good luck withwhatever you choose!
