Breast Milk Question
Hi ladies I am first time mother who had the sleeve two and half years ago. I have a week old new born and I have yet to get my milk in. I am wondering if other people who have had weight loss surgery have had the same problem. My sister thinks it could be the limited calorie intake due to surgery. Any info or advice would be acceptable.
Although I had RNY, I am successfully Breast feeding, my son is just a 2 weeks and 3 days old now. I pumped to make sure I was getting good milk supply. For first time moms, it does take up to a week to get the milk in, just stay consistent and every time that baby is hungry, put them to the breast, then after the 20 minutes on each side, if the baby does not seem content, then maybe give a ounce or 2 of formula.
They say to do the 20m minutes on each side just to help get the milk in. My son now only does 10-15 minutes on each side. I had my milk by day 3, but it is all about consistency, and drink lots of water, and try to eat as many calories as you can. Protein helps too.
Good Luck!

I was able to breast feed claudia for about 5 weeks, my milk came in about a week, but even with pumping for 20 minutes after every feeding session i couldnt keep up. i was only getting 1/2 an ounce to an ounce...it sucked. i was so heartbroken
Now....i am glad I decided to put aside my own "need" to breast feed and gave her formula. I did let her nurse as much as possible, but would gve her a bottle after to make sure she got enough to eat. eventually I dried up - surprisingly wasnt painful I am guessing cause it happened a little at a time.
Good luck, and like PP said, drink lots of water, and dont be to upset with yourself if it doesnt work to your "plan". the important thing is that your baby is eating.
