Protein shakes or other ideas?
My doctor wants me to really start pumping in as much protein as possible. I have tried with shakes and I have thrown up. Anyone have a shake they really like? She even told me to put ice cream in it. Carbs and sugar are not a problem either. I don't dump since I had the DS andI they told me I can afford to eat more sugar, fat, carbs, and protein... but for baby's brain development they want me to really push the protein.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I have a really hard time drinking protein shakes too :(
If you are just looking at getting in more protein and are not worried about sugar/carbs I would suggest some of the better tasting protein bars! They seem to be much easier to eat.. some even taste like candy bars to me! I really love the snickers ones, but I know there are other brands out there that have higher protein counts, some have like 30 grams of protein per bar!
If you get creative I am confident you will find something you like. Hang in there!

I am so worried about this, I am about to be ten weeks and I have had little to no protein since about week 4 from morning sickness. It is so bad that my hair is falling out :( The problem is the same with me, the taste and the resultant nausea. You got me worried now that you mention your doctor said "brain development"....
My OB told me that in the first trimester, just try to get in calories as best you can. Obviously a well-balanced diet chalk-full of protein is preferable. Because I was losing weight during my first trimester, the OB said, just get calories in.
The other tirmesters are another story. Your protein is very important. Good luck with it. I am struggling too but my nausea is so strong that shakes and bars are not an option right now. I have chicken breast 4 times a day. Not much chicken breast, but at least it is something, right.
Good luck!
