So, I woke up on Thursday morning and there was this GOD awful smell in my house when I opened my bedroom door. The girls have a fish tank and I figured it was just algea build up or it needed cleaned. Well, I tell my husband about it and he says the smell is MOLD. Come to find out the roof over the shower in the girls' bathroom is severly caving in and loaded with nasty mold. We're waiting on the land lord to get back in touch with us, but I am DEMANDING that this be taken care of before this next week or else he's getting my 30 day notice and we're moving to PA earlier than expected. I refuse to bring a brand new infant home from the hospital to this crap!! Why now?? I swear these next 10 days need to hurry because I really am looking forward to my quiet overnight stays in the hospital. My patience is paper thin, I can't stop crying about every little thing, and I'm just down right uncomfortable and miserable.  Did I metion baby is in fact posterior and that's what the dr was trying to indicate to me on Thursday, but wouldn't go more into detail. I'm freaking out about that too!! My mom and dad land on next Saturday evening and all I can say is...I WANT MY MOMMY!!! :(

Thanks Chelle! You and me both! However, I can't seem to get through to my landlord and all I keep getting is his voicemail. It's beyond frustrating!!!

I don't know much about the mold but I am sorry you are having to deal with that.  As for the baby being posterior, I would not worry too much.  When I delivered my daughter 12 years ago, she was head down but was posterior also.  I did not have any trouble delivering her face up.  Nothing was different.

Thanks Cass! And thank you for sharing that. The Dr was such a pompous ass and didn't talk the time to talk to me about all this and I'm all scared that it's going to hinder my chances of a vaginal birth. It's just annoying that Drs don't seem to want to take the time to discuss these types of issues. I go on Thursday and I'll be seen by the Dr that will be doing my induction, so hopefully she will take the time. She's a much nicer Dr with a more hospitable attitude! Thanks so much!

I feel your pain. Our ho****er heater busted when I was 7.5 months and flooded our entire downstairs. If you have renter's insurance, you should be covered... and since it's mold, it's considered uninhabitable because of health risks, so your insurance should grant you a housing/relocation allowance so you can stay elsewhere while the work is being done.

Hey Mandy!! When it rains it pours huh?? I called our renters insurance program and they're sending someone out on Monday morning to see how bad it is and everything. They've said that as long as the area can be closed off to the rest of the house and it's not black mold it's not a potentially harmful situation right away. So, being that the bathroom is in the back of the house, we may have to have the girls sleep on the couch and close off the back half of the house so they can come do the work. If only I could get my landlord to answer his phone or call us back!!! GRR!

I personally wouldn't even give him a week to get in there and get it cleaned up.  A week to maybe start fixing it...but you don't want to be living with that mold there...and now that it's all dispursed from falling down, if there's any humidity elsewhere, it can start growing elsewhere.  I would not recommend you clean it up - and keep the girls out of the room...if DH goes in there (he shouldn't but if he does) make him wear a mask and goggles...breathing it in is bad also.

LOL - I'm glad your mommy's coming...you need her there.  Good luck.

Holly,

Thanks so much! I'm not giving him a week to fix it, I'm giving him a week to have it FIXED completely! My parents and my in laws will be here this weekend for my induction on the 1st and he better have it straightened out by then. My husband mixed up some bleach and water to spray it and we ventilated the house as best we could yesterday, but I woke up this morning and the smell is just as bad. I'm about ready to call the Dept of Health and report them if they don't show up here by some time today. I'm getting beyond frustrated. Moving out of here by the end of March is starting to sound more and more tempting. My husband's calling this week to see when he can start his job in PA and we may just run for the hills. I'm not playing around!

I don't know if you could get away with it if you've got a lease...but when I was in NY years ago on a month to month, my son's bedroom bloomed overnight with mold because the land lord wouldn'****erproof the brick building...it was in the brown carpet (couldn't see it, but you could smell it), up the walls up above my head...everywhere.  I quit paying rent for two months and moved.  He knew it was there and wouldn't do anything about it (the problem wasn't helped by the fact that he turned the heat off whenever he left the house - even if it was -20 outside!).  If you could feasibly move at the end of March...I'd tell him you're not paying rent until it's fixed...and/or that you're moving.    Tell him he's got until tomorrow to get it started or you will report it. It's a health issue, and it's unsafe living conditions.  I'd almost guarantee the mold is not limited to just the part of the ceiling that collapsed, it's probably all in the walls and everywhere else.
