8 months out and pregnant with my first child, SCARED!
I just recently found out that I am pregnant with my first child. I spoke with my surgeon and his nurses and they agree that I should have waited at least a year before getting pregnant. While I with that I would have waited a little longer, I am still excited and have no regrets; however, I have to say that I have many concerns. I need your help and similar experiences or stories PLEASE! I feel as though I am in this alone.
I got pregnant 9 months out of VSG and while it's been difficult, I have managed to have a healthy pregnancy with a healthy baby on the way. I have struggled not to lose weight and have ended up -11 lbs, but this is including 5 weeks of terrible morning sickness. Dealing with cravings is hard emotionally, but I've indulged in what I can. As a VSG patient, I can eat anything but in very small portions. Getting fluids is also tough - this has been my main priority. I just had an ultrasound a couple weeks ago and our little girl is weighing in the 71st percentile! Best of luck to you!
I started at 324lbs and a size 26. After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011. My second daughter was born in September 2013. I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs. I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter. The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls. My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
Look here Special Lady, you are not alone as long as you have us here on OH!!! With that said, I had RNY surgery too and got pregnant (not on purpose) 6 months out. Now I'm not saying getting pregnant this early out doesn't have it's risks, but I'm due to deliver a healthy baby girl in 11 days....so anythings possible. First thing first....
1. Get your vitamin levels where they need to be for carrying a baby (you should be taking at the least a Prenatal and whatever vitamins you're on right now, B-12 shots if you get them, Iron supplement if you need them and Calcium Citrate)
2. You are going to have to introduce Carbs back into your life to stay out of ketosis (ketosis is harmful to the fetus). Good carbs though..You might want to talk to your nutritionist about your new pregnancy to see what she suggest, but you're going to have to up you caloric intake.
I'm sure if I left anything out the ladies here will chime in soon, but we're here for you if you have any doubts, questions or concerns.
One more thing...CONGRATS MOMMA!!!!!!!

Hey there. no worries! I had VSG 8/2/11 and found out in september that I was pregnant. i was devastated, upset, scared, horrified... all of those things. i am now 23 1/2 weeks pregnant and all is going well. I am ecstatic! I feel fantastic and as long as you take your vitamins eat healthy your baby will be fine and of course, you will be too! I have continued to lose (not that Im trying) Ive lost about 20 since i found out and 65 altogether, Ive held steady for the past 5 weeks with no change at all in my weight. I still have another 50 to go but thats not whats most important right now. With my last pregnancy which was pre-surgery I lost 30 pounds. Some women do that. I certainly wasnt trying to lose or restricting calories but it just happened. i was on bedrest so probably was as a result of me not being able to get up and graze all the time. my baby was born 100% healthy even though i had lost 30 pounds. just do your part and focus on getting your vitamins and nutrients. the baby will take all that it needs from you and all will be well. so excited for you. Please get in touch with me if you have any questions. for the most part, this pregancy has been as wonderful as my first 2 children (once teh shock & devastation wore off of course!) best wishes!!
