Too much amniotic fluid??

Well I just had the 2nd part of my anatomy scan done for the baby this past week.  I am almost 25 weeks. Anyway, she didn't cooperate the 1st time, such a cute little stinker! Well when I went in the ultrasound tech was worrying me and then she told me to wait there. So then the OB came in and told me that they need to have me tested for gestational diabetes because there is extra fluid around the baby that is concerning. She said if it's not GD, I will have to go to a special place for a stage 2 ultrasound to find out if the baby has any "structural abnormalities". I asked what exactly that means and she said it could mean that she has issues with her swallowing tubes. She said babies are suppose to be drinking the amniotic fluid and it doesn't seem that she is doing that.
SO I had the GD test and it was negative. Now I am waiting for the referral to go through for the stage 2 ultrasound. This pregnancy has been rough to say the least and I am constantly concerned about my baby girl.
I called my regular OB and she said that when she had measured my belly the day before it was at 25 and they like for it to be at 23... I don't quite understand all that but she did say that since it was within the 2 range she really isn't concerned about it. I hope she is right.
My baby is kicking away and seems to be doing well. I am just scared yet again. I am still not gaining any weight and I keep getting sick. I am just ready for June 1st and pray she makes it full term!
Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks ladies! Oh and we named our llttle girl - Eden Dory :)

That is a very cute name! I don't have any experience or advice to share, but I really hope that everything works out fine for you and your baby girl. You certainly have been through a lot! Hopefully its just one of those random things that don't hurt anything.
Take care,
Nikki

I had a few ultrasounds, my last one was at 36 weeks and I had my son at 39 weeks. My fluid levels were all measuring normal, but when they broke my water there was a LOT, like so much that the doctors could not believe how much there was. They asked me if they mentioned anything in ultrasound about the levels being high, and I told them it was all measured normal. Well anyway, baby is just fine and he did not have any problems with sucking. Just don't stress out to much about it.

The whole time I was pregnant, the doctors were sure I had GD even though all the tests came back negative. My baby measured big and I measured for a lot of fluid. Everything ended up being fine. They never mentioned the swallowing issue to me so I am not sure about that. Please let us know how it goes!

P.S. I love the name Eden. Lorelai goes to daycare with an Eden and I really like that name!

I measured big the entire pregnancy (almost 7 years ago).  I had 2x the amount of fluid you are supposed to have.  My son turned out just fine.

I just went through the same experience. I went in for a sono just to check on the baby's weight/size and my amniotic fluid was measuring just a bit high...25 instead of 23 or lower (like yours). They asked me if I had had a GD test done- yes many weeks prior, and nothing showed up. The dr said they'd start monitoring the baby twice a week at this point. Excited that I would get two sonos a week, scared that they they were that concerned about the baby though. Of coarse I went home and got on the internet and read everything imaginable- not advised! I went back to the dr a few days later and laid it all out- "what are the chances that the baby has a birth defect?". I was told that there are markers that the sonographer look for and my baby showed none of them and that he is probably in the 90% that "it's just something that happens and we don't know why" category. So I continued seeing the dr twice a week and doing the stress test and sono at every visit and waited with bated breath that something horrific would show up. Blake was born on Jan 12 and he is absolutely PERFECT! He truly was in the 90% category that it meant nothing at all, just some fluke thing they can't explain.

The level 2 sonographer will look for markers. The sono that you just recently had would tell if there were something wrong. I've had both and my dr's regular sonographer is just as good as the level 2 tech. Basically you're probably getting a second opinion. There is a 90% chance that Eden is absolutely perfect...those are great odds. Also, in terms of amniotic fluid- they would rather there be too much than not enough, because its safer for the baby. We can carry the extra and the baby is perfectly safe. Please keep us posted...I will pray that your little gal is fine and this is "just one of those things" too.
