I forgot to add:   Be kind to yourself, you are growing a baby!  I know its not going to be easy, we just need to think of our babies!

Good Luck!

How awful and yet so good that you are a woman of sound mind in order to not follow her suggestions.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and have put on 9lbs - My OB is not happy and wants more on. (he totally gets bariatric surgery) - and I go pregnant before even 12 months. I am eating as often as I can and as high calorie as I can. My Dr. even told me if I don't dump to start eating ice cream in order to get my carbs/ fats/ calories in- hahahahah.

Chelle, your baby is lucky to have someone like you for it's mom - an independent thinker. Well done to you and if you do go back to the NUT in a month, don't forget to tell us how it goes.

Good grief! Your body needs complex carbs-- especially now! And the 10 lbs. thing is crazy... I've heard that (unless you are morbidly obese, which you certainly don't appear to be) you should gain 25-35 lbs. during a normal, healthy pregnancy (I had my kids pre-WLS and I still gained like 45-60 lbs each time!)
I always employ the 'smile and nod' technique when talking to NUTS and then just continue to do what I was doing. My surgeon's nutritionist didn't even know the difference between my surgery (DS) and a RNY... she also told me that 2 Flintstones vitamins a day are just fine if you can't swallow pills... ummm, no! lol
Just keep doing what you're doing and you and baby will be just fine!
Good luck!

Holy smokes!!  I have to agree with everyone else. You have to have carbs to avoid ketosis (sp?) which can cause brain development issues... I eat what ever I want (healthy choices) when ever I want. I wasn't at goal when I got prego and have lost about 35-40 lbs during this pregnancy so far.. I am almost 22 wks and expect to start gaining.. At least I hope to start gaining.. I still have about 20 lbs to go until I reach goal but my current goal is to have a healthy baby even if that means gaining more than 10 lbs... Do what you already know your body and baby needs...EAT CARBS gain weight..
