The nutritionist said to me yesterday....
1. gain no more than 10 lbs.
2. continue to avoid carbs.
WTF??????????? How crazy is that advice? I am still a little dumbfounded.
1. If I were to gain only 10 lbs, that means I would have to continue losing weight throughout my pregnancy. Or end up with a malnourished baby. FAT CHANCE sister. I stopped losing weight in april and my body is determined to hold on to this extra 20 lbs. It's not going anywhere unless I stop eating altogether.
2. Avoid carbs...really? Now that is some interesting backwards sh*t because everything I've read says you need to have at least 100 complex carbs a day to avoid ketosis which can cause fetal brain damage. After telling this NUT my take on it, she looked at me like I was crazy. Clearly they are not used to patients who argue with them. She still wants me to go back in a month. To discuss what, I don't know. But I find it scary that this woman is giving out prenatal advice like that.

Doctors don't know everything. 10 pounds?! Please. I could gain 10 pounds in my sleep. I gained 52 with my pregnancy and have now lost 16 in 10 days. Don't sweat it! Do what you think is healthy for you and your baby.
That sounds like advice that they would give someone who is morbidly obese... and you obviously are not.

Hi. It was the nutritionist from the Bariatric office. I don't think they kow what to do with a pregnant patient. I am upset that they told me 10 lbs because that is not putting a realistic expectation on me (and not fair to someone who has always struggled with body/image issues). I had my goal set at no more than 20 which I thought was reasonable. It is common knowledge that low-carb diets are dangerous to pregnant women. I am just so appalled that she said that and has given that advice to god only knows how many other pregnant WLS patients. I am now a firm believer in "be your own best advocate" more than ever. Grrr.
My doctors kept telling me to see a nutritionist, and I kept "forgetting" my appointment. I gained 55lbs through my pregnancy and I have already lost 35 already in 8 days. I am breastfeeding and burning a lot of calories that way so it may have something to do with it, but when I got home from the I was already down 20lbs.
O please... I gained 50. opps. i might have went over board hahahaa

10 lbs? Really? Well lets review some stuff here real quick... first your nutritionist is on crack and obviously does not know anything about fetal/maternal weight gain....
Here is an APPROXIMATE breakdown of where your weight goes...
SO if your only to gain 10 lbs, then you would actually lose weight. I am terrified of gaining weight while pregnant, I expressed my concern with my dr and he flat out told me now was not the time to worry about that. He said the baby needs calories and to worry about losing AFTER the baby is born. I told him, I did not want to top the scales at 200 lbs... I am 15 weeks and 185 lbs. I was 173 when I went for my first appt at 7weeks.. am I worried, yes, Do I need to do better with my eating,, yes, but I would rather suffer the pounds and have a healthy baby. Has anyone ever seen an actual eating plan for pregnancy after RNY? I would be interested in seeing one. Like I said, I need to get back on track and out of the carb/sugar rut I am in that is causing me to gain fast...
