Im 2yrs 10 mon post op RNY. Its been 5 yrs since I had a baby plus I had surgery after. I need tips& advice. We're military& they don't even have bariatrics here much less a specialist who can take care of me to proper standards. Any thoughts?!

You don't need a specialist.  Youre not high risk.  I had two after the rny and at them without issues.  Here is the thing, if you want to talk to ob on base and they feel like they can send you off post, ask for a referral.  They have to come up with some reason why you need to be seen off base but it can be done.  My last one I was sent off base towards the end because he stopped growing and moving.  But that had nothing at all to do with the surgery.  Yes, I have had three little boys after surgery and back to back.  Also, you can ask your pcm to do a referral and get you in to see a bariatric doctor.  I'm surprised you didn't know that or havent done that.  There is nothing different before and after the surgery.  You still need to follow the rules of the pouch and only add 300 calories.

I guess my concern comes from the fact my pcm told me if I do become pregnant they'd consider me high risk due to my anemia& some other issues. Not to mention the disregard this clinic applies to their pts concerns, their lack of testing, & assumption that majority of pregnancies are the same, which is not my idea of good care.

If they consider you high risk, like I said they didnt me even though I have some issues, but they can refer you off post.  Ask the ob to put in a referral and have him to list every single thing he can.  From all the surgeries you have had down the low iron.  Tricare will more than likely send you off base.

Grats mama!

Best advice? Relax, you're far enough out from surgery that you shouldn't have any issues with a healthy pregnancy and no need for a specialist.
Second ask your OB to run your labs asap and make sure you're not lacking anything. Also have them suggest a good prenatal vitamin with iron.

Im really trying to but my 2 pregnancies before surgery were difficult, so im really keeping my fingers crossed this has a possibility of enjoying it. Lol how is the weight gain& loss? Also I saw u have twins, is it hereditary, or was it due to surgery?

My twins were pre-WLS and it was a difficult pregnancy. It was a huge shock to find out I was having twins since they don't run in my family at all. I had every ache and pain possible and eventually developed pre-e which resulted in my girls being born 10 wks early. Thankfully we're all healthy now. They'll be 2 next month and you'd never guess they were preemies.

This pregnancy was a huge surprise, I had an IUD in place and my OB thinks my WLS did factor into getting pregnant (rapid weight loss can raise progesterone, making you more fertile supposedly). It's been a breeze compared to my last. I've gained 18 lbs total and the OB is estimating baby boy will be 8lbs at birth. Overall its been night and day comapred to my pre-WLS pregnancy.

I hope you have an easier pregnancy this time around!

I am military dependant also. I find that being my own advocate makes them listen. I dont have issues of them not listening and if I ever did I would take it to the liason and have it fixed. I was not high risk from surgery either. You can always request labs done when they should be. They may not be familiar with the tests you need but if you give them a list then they will test for it no questions. I also dont do the db test with the drink. I do fasting blood sugars. I just told my doctor that in the begining. Did not give them the options. I say what I want. Now I am not demanding I just say ok I cant drink that nasty drink and the results wont be acurate anyway and they work out the alternative. I just add some carbs and make sure to take all my pills which is a lot. I make sure to add extra iron because that is always an issue for me. Drink even more than before because its even easier to be dehydrated. Other than that pregnancy is not different. I had worse pregnancies before surgery for many different reasons. Everything will be just fine
