Increased fertility after WLS
So...I've been told that women are more fertile after WLS because of all the hormones stored in fat....etc...
But my question.....if I'm a SLOW loser (I'm talking 3lbs in the last 5 weeks).....is it safe to say that my "fertility" is pretty much....the same as it would be any other day?
7 years ago on this day (my hubby's b-day) I got pregnant with my son =)

Rhietta,
It's really hard to say "how much" our fertility improves. Yes fertility improves with weight loss. Many of us become fertile myrtles after WLS... or after some weight loss. Each body is very different. If you would like to know how fertile you are, I would strongly suggest going to see your OB and having them run some tests on you.
I can speak for myself... before my WLS I wasn't ovulating. No ovulation = total infertility. Now I'm ovulating like clockwork and I did get a BFP on our first time trying. I was 15 mos post op, lost 130 lbs and 40 yrs old! I unfortunately had a MC but we're getting ready to try again.
Hope that helps.

If you want to know how fertile you are, you can learn to keep record (chart) of your daily fertility symptoms. I recommend this for every woman just as a matter of personal self-awareness. My husband and I have practiced natural family planning successfully for the past 5 years to space our kids. In your premarital counseling prep classes, I learned how to tell when I'm fertile from the position and softness/hardness of my cervix, basal body temperature, and the quality of your mucus and other sure signs of fertility (ie. breast tenderness, extra interest in sex, etc.). If you aren't on any kind of artificial contraception, these signs become easy to identify if you know what you're looking for. And then, as you learn about your own body's signs of fertility, you'll see that from month to month you exhibit the same symptoms.
Check out Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of Your Fertility at http://www.tcoyf.com/ to get started. (I promise I don't work for her. I just like to think it's empowering to know how your reproductive cycle actually works without drugs.)
Oh, and you can also use a Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor to see when you ovulate, but you have to pee on a stick each day, and each stick costs about $1, so it can get expensive. The monitor costs about $150.The pamphlet in the monitor says not to use the monitor to avoid pregnancy, only to try to conceive, but it is a tool that's out there. I'm just sayin. :)

I've always been one of the "lucky" ones when it comes to fertility. I've always ovulated (as far as I know), my periods have always been like clockwork (even after having my RNY....was on my period the day of surgery and 4 weeks later...welcome back!!)....6wks after giving birth even though I was exclusively BFing....welcome back.
With Lilly....got my period the week after I got married.....4 weeks later when AF didn't show up...I was pregnant (back then I had NO IDEA about ovulating, 2WW or any of that....I actually thought you would get pregnant the closer to the start of your period. Went in for my 8 wk appt after Lilly was born (c/s) and found out I was pregnant with William. With Ethan I was on the BCP.....when my period came, I stopped that month and 4wks later....BFP (and that was at my heaviest)
So I've always been fertile......just didn't know if I was going to be OVER the TOP fertile....but even then.....I don't know for me (since I ovulate etc)...it will make a difference.....because at the end of the day....all it takes is that one sperm to meet the egg.....and if I know my eggs are already there and we're making sure that sperm isn't getting to that egg......
Rambling now....I have baby fever really bad (my hubby is deployed right now....so getting preg...isn't an option right now).......
I hope everyone that is trying gets their BFP!! While infertility is not something I've struggled with....by far it would be the worst if I did!!!
