Personally I wouldn't take medical advise from a stranger I met in a wal-mart, but that's just me....

I did find this online:

Geritol and Fertility

  • Rumors have circulated for many years claiming that Geritol helps women get pregnant. A grass-roots slogan for the product was that it "has a baby in every bottle!" But, is it true? The official response from the product's manufacturer says: "There is no evidence that Geritol can increase fertility and we don't make that claim. We're not sure how the rumor started, but there's no truth to it."

Jeez. I almost heard that verbal slap. Ouch.

I would hope that it was not a verbal slap since we are all here for support and guidance.  That would not be ladylike.

Just sayin' I wouldn't take adivce from some lady in walmart... espeically since you're post RNY. Your body has specific vitamin requirements and things like which supplements to take should be left up to discussion with your OB, Nutritionist, WLS doctor, etc.

Not sure why anyone would think that was a verbal slap, it certainly wasn't intended to be that way...  Even the Geritol company says it doesn't influence fertility.... so the stranger in wal-mart knows more than the company???

Right? I pretty much meant the same thing. But, I have snapped at people before (hiding in embarrassment) when I probably shouldn't have. I remember once I really let someone have it when she said she was having a hard time remembering to take her vitamins. Man, was I on my high horse that day. What a dork.

Now, 18 months into this mom thing, I just find it better to try to be nice and supportive. lol I try to only go ballistic on my husband.

I think I should be done wirh this now.  I was just asking questions to see what imput I could get.  I did not want this to turn into petty catfights.    People are saying sly stuff and I am not about that I only like to inform and ask questions and get input only.

For sure! Did I sound petty? I sure didn't mean to, that's not me at all. Good luck to you though! I'm such a dork. I went through all my old posts to try to find that one poor lady I flamed to try to say "sorry". I can't find her and its making me nuts!

Funny that you post this because my Mom told me the same thing a few years back.  It is an old wives tale and one that a lot of older woman believe.  I had posted something about it on here and got a reply as to why it may work I just don't remember the reasoning.  Ok, I just looked and this is what I found:

There is evidence, though, that iron supplements do increase a woman's ability to conceive. A study published in 2006 by Harvard School of Public Health and affiliated hospitals concluded that women who consumed iron supplements had a significantly lowered risk of ovulatory infertility than those same women who did not use iron supplements. According to Dr. Lawrence Jay Rappaport, iron supplements such as Geritol improve the character of a woman's cervical mucus and thus improve the chances of conception. Yet, if iron is the key ingredient, most physicians will tell you that taking a prescribed or even over-the-counter prenatal vitamin, such as PrimaCare, Rainbow Light or Solgar Prenatal, are far better than taking Geritol. That's because these items contain not only all the essential vitamins and minerals specially formulated for ovulating and pregnant women, but they contain higher amounts of iron, too.
I don't think that taking Geritol can harm you, it is vitamins and we all know we need them.
