I was told to try this forum out since I have pregnancy related questions.  Im going to be having surgery hopefully soon (VSG to be more specific) and I was just wondering how many of you couldnt get pregnant before surgery and then had no problems afterwards?  I got pregnant once but miscarried and that was 2 years ago and since then I havent gotten pregnant again.  Everyone keeps telling me it will happen when I lose weight so Ive stopped trying and will wait a while after I have surgery and lose weight.

It took me 15 cycles post op trying to get knocked up :)  We didn't prevent for about 8 years, except for about 6 months after surgery.  I never had testing done to find out if it was just our timing or if anything else was going on.  I had CM issues (watery at best) so that could definitely have contributed.

I hope your surgery goes well!

For about 8 years we didnt prevent either and never got a single pregnancy scare. A year after VSG I got knocked up using condoms/spermacide. I think losing the 80 lbs made a big difference.

SOMETIMES weight loss can 'fix' fertility problems... sometimes it doesn't. It depends on what the specific reason is. I had 2 miscarriages pre-op (don't know why... never had testing). I got pregnant 7 months out from RNY (failed b/c) and my son is perfectly healthy. I am having baby #2 on friday. As far as I know.... he's fine.

However, there are many other women here who can tell you, WLS did not 'cure' their fertility problems.

I hope you have success after your weight loss journey.

my husband and I tried for 6 years to have a 2nd child but to no aval, had my RNY Feb. 26 2010 and in Aug. 2010 I found out I was pregnant. I had only 2 periods after my surgery. I was so scared only b/c I was so shocked and I had given up on trying to get pg after all this time. I am 25 weeks and this baby is doing very well and is very active !!!! I hope things work out for the best with you and your situation.

The weight loss did nothing to help mine. Except this time the clomid did work where as before wls we did 2 rounds of clomid with no success.

10/18/07 RNY ( hw 305 sw 290 lw 189ish) St Joe's 08/14/14 RNY reversal to sleeve. I survived 3 leaks,4 operations and a feeding tube.

It took 17 months and Clomid to get pregnant before WLS.  After my DS, we got pregnant on the first perfectly timed cycle after I had my IUD out, which was the second cycle we tried (DH was out of town when I ovulated the first time.)  Make sure you use protection until your surgeon gives you the all clear to get pregnant.
