Help Please-Sick (Kinda Long)

So we had a huge snow storm here on Wednesday that shut the whole city down. I was outside trying to help me husband and seemed to have gotten a cold on from it. It started in my chest with a dry cough. Friday was about the same just felt run down. Yesterday it moved to my head. I have  a headache, watery eyes, nose that wont stop running along with sneezing. I called the Dr and the nurse said to try Robitussin DM. Well that helped with the chest and cough. It absolutely did not help the head issues. So last night was a total night of no sleep. I called back this morning. New nurse says that I can try Mucinex but I need to ask the pharmacist which one I can take. She goes on to say that they used to recommend Sudafed but they really dont anymore. So I get my husband out of bed at 6 to go to Walgreen's with me. We get there and the pharmacist says you can take Mucinex DM basically the same thing as the Robitussin. I told him that I already had some and need something for me head so I can sleep without getting up every 1/2 hour to blow my nose. He suggests Sudafed. I tell him what the nurse says and he tells me that I am out of options pretty much. I am so uncomfortable and need to sleep. I came home and took a Sudafed so I could sleep for a while. It worked like a champ but feel guilty as she said it was no longer recommended.

What have you ladies done for a head cold?? I need relief really bad.

I had and again have the same thing and I'm using what my dr and the pharmacist suggested..Tylenol Cold. Mostly all Tylenol products are ok, but I've heard Mucinex is not good for us at any stage of pregnancy. There's also a PM version of the Tylenol Cold that my Doc said was ok as well. Double check with your drs, but that is what helped me throught he first round last month and again I'm struggling with it right now! UGH! Gotta love the weather and this time of year...NOT!!! :) Hope you feel better soon...I'm right there with ya!

Ya know, this pregnancy thing isn't for sissies, and when we get sick, MAN is it hard. This cold/flu season has been especially gross in our house, and I had to break down and take antibiotics and sudafed at 18 weeksand I was NOT happy about that. But, baby needs you to get your rest and get well. Sometimes you just have to. I'm sorry ... I hope you're better!

Thank you all for the advice. I never even thought about Tylenol. I am going to take off of work tomorrow and talk to my OB personally instead of the call center nurses. I am sure every nurse is different and has there opinion on what is safe. On top of that I dont even know if they are OB nurses.

I have had a number of horrible colds and sinus infections this pregnancy and I was taking sudafed, but recently my doctor told me to take benadryl instead since the sudafed raises your blood pressure.  I also use the vicks rub under and in my nostrils and have a vicks vaporizer ( I am addicted to vicks) and that seems to help.  I hope you feel better!

I have to read this post to my husband! He thinks I am crazy for being addicted to Vicks. LOL. Good to know I am not the only one. I have been using it in the vaporizer and on my nose. I took another Sudafed a few minutes ago just so I could get some sleep tonight. Thank you for the well wishes!

My OB allows Tylenol Cold and Sinus or Sudafed (regular - red box). I was told that Mucinex can cause amnionic fluid problems.

I have been sick alot this pregnancy... it sucks. alot. Hang in there!
