Weight gain........BLAH!! UGH!!!
Okay I just needed to vent. I went to my OB appointment today. I'm sickened and sad to admit that I've gained 30lbs this pregnancy! (My first and I'm only 27 weeks)...I'm soooo sad because I have been watching my portions, I don't eat sugar, probably too many carbs but I do what I can. Having the RNY in Dec 2004 obviously I am WAY far out and able to eat semi-normal but I am very conscience of what and how much I eat!
I feel low, I am soooooooooo grateful that baby Cami Jo is healthy, has a strong heart beat and all is well there but OMG I can't starve myself or my baby so how in heck am I going to do this for the rest of the pregnancy I'm scared I'm gonna keep gaining!!!
I eat fruits, veggies, meat, ect....I try to eat frequently (6-7 SMALL meals, snacks a day) what the heck can I do to stop this weight gain? It's scary and very discouraging to be honest!

Hi Barby,
I am only 8 months out of my RNY and only 12 weeks pregnant so I dont have much advice to offer. I worry about gaining and then get paranoid about not giving the baby what it needs so I can clearly see myself feeling just like you in the near future. I have to believe that it is a struggle that most wls moms go through!
However, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone with the struggle of the numbers! It sounds like you are doing what you need to do to keep the both of you healthy! Try to stay focused and dont get too down on yourself. You are beautiful and are "baking" a little beauty! Besides, we will all be right there beside you when it's time to start knocking some of those extra numbers down!

Hey Barby!
You've done exceptionally well with your RNY. You must know something about doing your dietary intake right!
I will just say that this far out you don't need to push the carbs for your pregnancy - I doubt very much you are in ketosis. I remember you said that sometimes you eat what is cheap like - ramen noodles. OMG, that stuff will kill you. It is fried and if you use the packets that come with it, the sodium is enough to blow your kidneys out if you have any high blood pressure. I'd stay as far away from those seasoning packets as possible - any sodium based seasonings. If you are eating salt maybe you are just retaining water - if so, please stop.
Drop your carbs a bit and when you do have carbs, try having complex carbs (ditch the white stuff). I understand that money is an issue, but there are coupons and sales in the supermarkets - you should see me going through circulars. I'm the crazy woman but it is the only way that I can get good stuff at good prices. And if it is any worse than spending a little less on groceries, I wonder how you will handle making a living when the baby comes. That is my worse fear for myself. How would I do these things like the biggest thing - paying for a babysitter.
The thing is that if you fall under a specific poverty guideline, you qualify for WIC right now (you can buy really nutritious foods for yourself), WIC for the baby when she comes, In NYC - housing vouchers or bumped to the front of the line for public housing (If on Public assistance, they give you a furniture voucher when you get your apartment if you need it., food stamps (snap card), Child care with a home provider @ 6 weeks, vocational training, university, state health insurance - all sorts of healthy child programs, Oh man, the list just goes on and on. It is the working people who are really boardering poverty that are actually poorer. My friend and I, she is a Clinical social worker on hospital salary and private practice joke about having this fantasy of getting in this position just so we can have babies. Being single is ridiculous in the city. It is like by time you pay your expenses you have absolutely nothing left.
Anyways, try to eat healthy. You may want to get a copy of Weigh****chers filling foods if your issue is hunger. Because you don't want to end up with a stretched out pouch, stoma after doing so well for so long from a pregnancy. Your baby needs you to be in the best health. Please if you don't already, get WIC - that has to be in every state right? Well at least see if you qualify. It can make a difference and if you need it, that is what it is there for. Get all you need until you are on your feet.
Blessings,
Leila

Thanks ladies...yeah I was eating quite a bit of sodium over the last month, that is something I will be cutting out...
I need to up my water intake as well honestly and I do stay away from bread as much as possible. Other than saltines I don't eat much in the way of white breads. Pasta on the other hand has been a staple. Ugh but seeing the scale is scary so I've made a new meal plan and am going back to lots of tuna and fruits (i eat fruit daily anyway) but I am cutting the frozen tamales that I eat regularly because those besides the pasta is what I believe all my carbs are coming from.
Thanks for the supportive words they are much appreciated!

Hey there, are you exercising at all? I know its hard, but can you try walking? I walked right up to the day I delivered, and it really helped me with weight and with endurance during delivery. Plus, it gave DH and I an hour a day together outside to just talk and be together without TV or computer. :-) Hang in there!
If you are a pasta lover, try Dreamfields brand. I don't know how they do it but it only has like 5 carbs a serving and tastes like regular pasta. It is in a black/red box usually found by the healther pastas in that aisle. It can be expensive but if you have a Shoprite nearby it is usually on sale for $1.99 a box.
Being italian, I love this option. My husband didn't even know it was a special brand till I told him 4 boxes later (and he is a food snob).
