I can't believe my sweet boy is 3 months (yesterday)! I love him so much I can't stand it!! Being my first child (and last) I didn't know you could be so in love with another human being...

He is so sweet, always smiling. He only cries when he's hungry or has a gassy tummy. He goes to work with me every day, and I LOVE that. I've only left him one time for 2 1/2 hours and that was last night. He was with his dad and I was literally only 6 blocks away. I almost couldn't do it. LOL I guess we all survived--even if his jammies were on wrong and he was flip-flopped in his crib when I got home!!

He eats about 6 ounces per feeding. He only wakes one time in the night now, so that's greatly improved!! Thought we'd never get off a every-2-hour schedule. Then one day--yippee!!

My biggest concern is his head shape. I  noticed a flat spot on the back right side. At his 2-month appt I mentioned it to his pediatrician and she said if it's not better by 5 months, he may need a helmet. This is killing me! I've been laying him on the opposite side as much as I possibly can for over a month now, and I see NO improvement. I'm afraid I have ruined his head. I think it's all my fault since I work and maybe don't hold him as much as a stay at home mom, or even a day care provider. I just don't know what to do....I'm going to post his head shots one of these days so I can get your opinions on the severity of this..

Thanks for listening.
Best wishes

Gage is gorgeous - and such a happy looking baby.  I can't even pick a favorite picture...he doesn't take a bad one and the're all great.

Regarding the flat spot...I notice in every one of these pictures, Gage's head is slight turned to the right. This may be because he turned to look at you when you took the picture.  However, if he's always keeping his head turned to the right, and if that's how he's laying, with his head in same position, I would recommend pointing out to your pedi that he constantly keeps his head turned slightly to the right (thus putting the pressure on that side of his head and making the flat spot).

I believe I'd mentioned in response to an earlier post about the flat part of his head -  when my son was around the same age, he also kept his head turned slightly to one side.  His pedi told us that we had to get those muscles/ligaments stretched on the other side of his neck so that he would turn his head the other direction.  To do that we had to lay him down on the bed and gently, physically force him to turn his head the other direction, almost to the level where it was as if he turned is head sideways to look over his shoulder.  We also had to switch sides that we held him on to feed him, forcing him to turn his head the other direction.

I am not suggesting you just do this on your own.  You need to have your dr show you how much to turn his head...but I am highly recommending that you talk to your dr about it.  My dr said that if we did not get the muscles/ligaments stretched out while he was little, that it woudl mean a lot of physical therapy later on and that it would only get worse w/out the stretching/therapy.

Please just ask your pedi about it and make sure that that is not the problem.  I personally wouldn't worry as much about the flat spot on his head - his hair will cover that someday - as much as I'd worry about him having to do physical therapy in a year or two if it is because he doesn't use those muscles by turning his head to the left.

I'm not trying to scare you...I'm just telling you what I went through with my son so you're aware that it can be an issue and is something worth asking the dr about.

Best wishes.

He is adorable! I love it when they smile SO big that you see their gums. It's too, too sweet! Y'all did good!

As for the flat spot ... I don't have any advice other than "let go of the guilt Momma!" ... You noticed it, you're taking action and your sweet boy is going to be fine and it just is what it is. Feeling guilty because you're not a SAHM is, understandable, but silly! You're doing great and I believe everything is going to work out for you.

Love, love, love his pics!

I really want to pinch his little cheeks! He looks like a very happy baby :)
Don't feel bad about his head, you did nothing wrong and have been aware of it. Will he sleep on his side of you roll up some recieving blankets and prop them behind his back? Or use one of those sleep positioners? Good luck and keep us updated.

When I lay  him down to sleep, I lay him on his left side and he stays that way 90% of the time. It just doesn't seem to be helping.

I'm about ready to call the pediatrician's office to see if I can do something before 5 months...maybe Monday I'll call.

Thanks
Kina
