Breastfeeding & lactation questions...

My daughter was born on a Tuesday after induced labor and c-section and my milk didn't come in fully until Sunday.  It sucked.  Keep your chin up, take warm showers, keep working with an LC if possible if you want to get her latched.  Hang in there.

It can take a while for the milk to come in. Mine was very slow to come in and when it did, I still didn't make a lot. We supplemented for about day 3 onward and Rowan never had any trouble with "nipple confusion." Even when I was making enough milk, my husband still did at least 1 overnight feeding with a bottle! Be sure to use lansinoh on your nipples, it really does help, but you are gonna be sore often for the first few weeks. Most of all, don't torture yourself. Your baby will be fine with your milk, formula, or a combination of both. Keep trying for a few days. I never got engorged when my milk came in, but I did have weird stabbing/tingling pains, which is apparently what my "let down" feels like, like my boobs fell aslepe and are waking up with pins a needles!

I just had my 3rd , 6 weeks early, last Thursday. I immediately started to pump my milk (not able to breastfeed until the NICU gives me the okay). I pump every 2 hours with the Medela pump. I used it with my other two. It had my milk supply flowing within the first day. This time, I pumped once and got colostrum, after that, i was getting milk. Pumping can really increase your supply if your diligent and pump every 2 hours. It can really help. You can pump the milk after you breastfeed too. I know your already in pain, but it will get better. The pain is just your breasts/nipples getting used to it. That will subside over time. The medela stimulates me more than breastfeeding and it always helped to increase my supply and help my uterus shrink back down to size after a very short time. You can rent a pump if you do not want to buy one. Good luck!

I didn't read all the posts, so someone may of already said this, but I never had alot of milk however, the little milk that did come in, came in because I started taking Fenugreek (sp?) and also a tea called Mother's Milk. It really helped.
Try it. :)

Thanks! I've been taking fenugreek for a few days, now. My milk has come in, kind of. I can pump about 10 ounces a day now... but I still have to supplement with formula. I hope I get to the point where I can keep up with her demand.
