Audrey has arrived! Birth story & pics
Audrey is here! I was induced at midnight on January 31. After 20 long hours of labor, she arrived via c-section on February 1st at 9:18pm. She is 7 pounds 5 ounces, 19 inches long, and has a full head of dirty blonde hair and blue eyes.
I was induced because I was carrying really high and she was not progressing downward. Even after the pitocin induction, I was still only dilated to 3 1/2 and she wasn't making any progress. The doctor came in and broke my water (which REALLY hurt because it was waaaay up in there). Still, no progress even after that.
The decision of a c-section came as a surprise because I was expecting them to let me go a lot longer. I powered through my contractions and then finally had my epidural at 8:40pm, they then told me I was going in for surgery at 9pm, and she was born 18 minutes later.
I delivered at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland. That's where I was born, too! Everything was really great. My husband Bobby got to stay with me the whole time, and the night I delivered too. The next night, though, there was a "baby boom" and they needed his bed for another woman, so they kicked him out. Fortunately, I have been doing well, so they released me a day early so that I could come home to be with him. Audrey is also in great health and passed all of her tests so she got to come home, too.
She is nursing like a champ. Actually, a little TOO well. This girl could suck a golf ball through a garden hose. I am in a world of hurt when I feed her, so tomorrow I see a lactation consultant to get some pointers. I really want to enjoy the bonding experience of breastfeeding... but she has such a strong latch she makes me cry.
I still can't believe she's here. It's surreal!
*Edited to add: My friend made this cute birth announcement for us... but she put 2010 instead of 2011. :) *
