Trip to ER..poss surgery in my future

I had a very crappy shift at work the other night. We were understaffed and ended up getting forced to take more patients than normal. Was running around like crazy. At about 4:30 in the morning I start gagging and throwing up but it was just bile, no food. It wasn't like my normal morning sickness. I feel ..well sick and nausous before throwing up with morning sickness. Thi**** out of no where. So after trying to work like this for an hour I finally went down to the ER.

They figured I was dehydrated since I didn't get to drink as much. I got an IV and bolus of fluids w/ zofran. They became concerned when I had a headache and my BP was high and didn't come down. They sent me to L&D for a nonstress test and Bp monitoring. Thankfully the BP went down because they were worried of preeclampsia. They did an U/S of my gallbladder and found LOTS of stones. The tech said she was surprised I wasn't in extreme pain.

The OB on call came in and basically referred me to a GI surgeon. They wont do surgery yet but they want the surgeon aware of my case if I have another acute attack. They say that they do actually do surgery on pregnant women. The best time being between 22-31 weeks. Of course I am 22w currently. I am on a low fat, non greasy diet now. I am just hoping I don't have another attack. The thought of surgery while pregnant is scary.

Anyone had a similar situation? Known anyone who had surgery while pregnant and were ok?

How scary.  I'm also surprised you weren't curled up on the floor in pain.  Gallbladder attacks are usually pretty bad, and they come on out of no where.

There have been at least 1-2 women I've seen on here who have had gallbladder surgery while pg and they and their little one were fine.  Obviously if it's possible to put it off until after the baby gets here, that's best...but your health has to be taken into consideration too.  Hopefully the diet will help ward off another attack and after your little one is here, then you can worry about getting the gall bladder out.

Everytime the techs do an U/S of it they say the same thing. They are surprised I am not screaming. I do have the shoulder pain but I thought it was from my boobs getting bigger and everything just hurting in general. I didn't really notice it was only one sided since I was in a car accident years ago and injuried that side.

Thanks for the hugs. I am just crossing my fingers everything manages to chill until after the baby is born.

I had my gallbaldder out at 28 weeks. It was not great to do while pregnant. I was in severe pain though for days and demerol wand phenergan were not helping. I was in the hospital for 4 days with no relief before the surgeon decided to do the suregry. After surgery in recovery I started having contractions. I did dialate but they stopped the contractions. Everything was hard from then on. The surgery of course was open and not lap. So I would say its always great to wait till your baby is out. Going into an operating room and seeing it set up for not only me but for the baby was very scary. Seeing the bassinet there and the nurses and doctors saying dont worry we are just here if we need to take the baby is not a good feeling at all. Just stick to the diet and have them hold off till you have the baby
