OMG What a day!!! (rant)
Ok so me and DW went to my dads yesterday to tell him and my stepmom that they're going to be grandparents. Stepmom couldn't be bothered to come home because she was with her horses (and 9 others) while they were all getting their teeth cleaned. My dad was shocked, but I think he'll come around soon-ish. My stepmom sent me a text this morning that said "wow that's quite a news flash". Not a congrats from either! I decided today that they will come around and if they don't, I'm done caring!!! At least I'm not asking for the "wedding of the century!"
THEN...I got in my car at 6am, started right up, drove to the little store about 1/4 mile away, turned it off, I came out of the store to start it up and it didn't start! Just ticked like crazy. My dad said it was the battery. I called AAA and they came out and jump started it (at 6:50am). I made it to work (30 min late), turned it off, thought I should try to start it again, it didn't start! By this point I was so cold that my entire body was shaking! It was about 10 degrees this morning.
Clocked out of work at 12:50pm. The security command center where I work let me borrow their jump box (or whatever it's called) and that didn't work. Called AAA again (2:05pm) and waited outside for them until 2:45pm. The guy that came was nice but couldn't get the Beast (my car) started. He called for a tow truck to come take it where I could get it fixed. I waited inside until 3:15pm. They got there at 4pm. The 2 guys that came discovered that the connection to the terminal was loose and tightened it, ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? THAT'S IT??? They jumped it and I drove it to a mechanic. He checked it out and said it was running GREAT!!! All of this and I didn't have to pay for anything!!! I froze my ass off for a loose connection! I know how to fix that!!! If it had been loose when I was playing with it, I would have noticed!!! I missed woking my second job too!
I got to come home to my DW and cuddle a little before she had to get up for work and I'm now going to head off to bed. I'm exhausted and still cold! Thanks for listening/reading!!

I'm sorry you didn't get a more enthusiastic response regarding your little bean. Hopefully you're right and as time goes by they will come around. I really can't say I know much of your situation, but assume that it is because of your relationship that it just never dawned on them that it would be possible to still be grandparents? I'm sorry if I'm not tactful...I don't mean to be offensive...just not sure exactly how to word what I'm saying. Either way, I think that the happiness and joy between you and your DW will eventually rub off on them and they'll get in the swing of being grandparents. Well...at least your dad. Step-mom...I'm not so sure since she couldn't be bothered to come see you and/or at least say congrats in her text. She might take a little longer to warm up to the idea.
Re the car - sucks that you had to fuss with it back and forth and spend the day freezing your nether regions for a loose cable...but at least you weren't out any money - and getting your use out of your AAA!
Drink a cup of tea to warm your insides and get your sleep. Tomorrow's a whole nother day.

I'm so sorry you didn't get the joyful, excited reaction you deserved when you told your dad and step-mom the big news. I have a few gay friends who's parents reacted similarly when they were told that they were going to be grandparents. My good friend's partner carried the pregnancy with their child, and my friend's mom actually refuses to even acknowledge their child because the baby is not blood-related to her daughter. She literally said "that baby is no one to me"... so frustrating and hurtful! Your dad doesn't sound like he is that extreme... I hope he comes around so he can enjoy a relationship with you, your DW and his grandchild. If he doesn't, he will be losing out on quite a lot, and will probably regret it someday.
The car stuff sounds hellish... Being freezing is miserable. Car trouble is miserable. The 2 in combination can't be fun!
I would normally say to have a big glass of red wine this evening, but not in your condition ;)
Have a cup of tea and snuggle up with DW... maybe look through some baby-name books and start getting excited for the next step in your lives!!!
Good luck,
-V

DW went to work (she works 8p-8a) so I snuggled with the dogs! I'm sure my dad will. Maybe when he comes back from his 2 week vacation in Hawaii! I'm hoping the crazy snow that's happening in MI right now means I may not have to work tomorrow and DW and I were thinking of cleaning out some stuff in the babys room.
Crummy day!
You know what though, who CARES how excited they are...it's much more important how excited YOU are!
