Miscarriages 6 years post op

Does anyone have any information about vitamin absorbtion abilities in the 5+ years after an RNY?  I had my gastric bypass with Fobi pouch in 2003, then had two totally healthy/normal babies in 2007 and 2008.  But in 2009 and in 2010 I had early miscarriages at 4 and 10 weeks.  I know there are many reasons for miscarriages, and my awesome OB/GYN had me screened for everything under the sun.  Labs and tests all normal, including absorbtion of iron, b12 and calcium.  But I'm just wondering.  Have there been any studies that you know of about miscarriage rates among us gals status post gastric bypass?  Do we have similar stats as other women in childbearing years? Thanks for any help you can give.  I'm preggo again (6 weeks) and praying for the best this time.

I'm sorry for your losses.  It's hard - especially when you don't have answers as to WHY something like a mc keeps happening.

In the full spectrum of blood work you've had done, has your dr checked you for blood clotting disorders and/or auto-immune problems?  Just because you had two uneventful pregnancies doesn't mean that a blood clotting disorder - one that rears it's ugly head only during pregnancy - can't be causing your problems...or because you're symptom free doesn't mean you can't test positive for an autoimmune disease. My current dr believes that the three genetic blood clotting mutations is what is causing my problems...and I have a 15 1/2 year old son with the same husband.

I can't name specific studies to show either way...but I don't think there's a higher rate of mc for post-WLS pregnancy and pre-WLS pregnancy - as long as you're not too early out and/or not having extreme deficiencies.

I had three miscarriages before I had my son. I didn't realize that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. One thing that contributes to that is that we find out so much sooner than previously. So, the four week one you had might have been an issue with implantation and/or something else.

I know it is extremely hard. As long as your doctors have tested to see if there is anything wrong and your labs look well, then it is just the unexplained things of life that we don't know anything about. Additionally, miscarriages can happen prior to having a living child, in between children, and later pregnancies.

My thoughts are with you and pray for a happy healthy pregnancy this time.

Thanks,
Traci
