No, I am not choking my baby :)  I have a 6 week old and he chokes really bad when I feed him a bottle and even sometimes when I breastfeed him.  I have no clue why??  We have tried different bottles, made sure the nipples were the smallest size, even tried 2 different formulas.  It seriously scares the crap outta me!!  I have no clue what to do.  Any suggestions?  He is an extremely nasaly breather, has started spitting up way more the last few weeks, only gets about 4oz of formula a day, the rest is breast milk...

UPDATE:Thank you ladies!!  I send my doctor an email last night and she called in Zantac for us.  He got his first dose tonight.  He will have his 2 month check-up next week some time, so we will discuss the results/changes at that time and see if something else needs to be done.  I hope this does the trick though.

Sounds like reflux to me :(  All three of my kids had it, and two of them ended up on a prescription for it. I would ask the peditrician if they think it could be, and to check his weight gain just in case. My daughter wasn't gaining hers was so bad

I'm just gonna third the reflux replies. Sounds like what my Jackson did. It got better after they started him on zantac ( I think that's what it was lol) but it didn't go away but he is now 14 months old and no longer has a problem he grew out of it around 5-6 months!!! P&PT's.

Oh yeah, reflux.  My son had it, and thankfully, he only needed the medication for a few weeks until his little digestive tract matured to be able to handle keeping the acid down while bringing in the milk.  Poor baby.  I hope your pediatrician checks him out well.  A referral to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist might also be good if the checkup doesn't indicate reflux.  Also, did you talk to a lactation consultant?  There may be some small trick to giving him your nipple that could help him not choke.  Also, read the La Leche League book, Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.  I think it has a section on choking.  Blessings!

I too will say get him checked for reflux, but also... keep him as upright as possible at all times. It's a pain, but it helps. Tristan had gerd so bad... We ended up using Similac sensative RS formula. The rice starch in it causes it to kinda congeal in their tummies... but that's not going to help alot with the Breast milk.

I would get him checked out with pedi and see if you can feed him right in front of pedi to show what he is doing. Aiden did that with his reflux but also he has a swallowing issue. He has to have thicker substances or he chokes.
