Boo hoo, I've got the flu

I'm 32 weeks pregnant today and have caught the flu or some of stomach bug from my husband. I tried staying away from him and lots of hand washing, but to no avail....

I called a baby care line from my insurance, and they said for me to try to keep hydrated, and they wanted me to get some clear calories in. I tried a sip of broth and the thought/taste of meat in my mouth was just disgusting. I dont have any sugared Kool Aid or Gatorade in the house- as I don't drink sugar drinks. My husband had some Gatorade but that's all gone now. Will no calories hurt the baby?

My body did try to make me vomnit a couple of times, but having not eaten anything, and I don't have acid in my stomach, nothing came up... I'm now trying to drink some Propel as I have that in the house. But I can't drink anything very fast- even on good days, without feeling gaggy, so it's very slow process.

I've only had a fever as high as 99.5, I haven't tried Tylenol yet because-- I don't have any! I thought I had a bottle at work AND at home, but can't find any here at home. And hubby's still not feeling well, even tho he started being sick Thursday night. I'm having mostly stomach pains (i dont THINK they're contractions,,, I can't tell if my uterus is hard) and diarreah. I haven't had a stomach flu in 10 years, so I have nothing to compare it to.,

Ugh.. Even if no one has any other advice, I just needed to vent...

I am sorry to hear this! I had the flu twice this pregnancy and the one at 17 weeks was the worst! Our family took a vacation for a week and the whole week we were gone, we all had the flu. It included Pink eye and ear infections as well. The Tylenol is a must though to keep your fever down because elevated fevers are not good at all for the baby, so get some as soon as you can. Also the advantage we have is that our bodies want to throw up, but we cannot, so it makes it easier to keep in the fluids. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks Lianne for your reply. I was able to send hubby out for some Tylenol last night, and after hours of sweat and cold, my temp at least this morning, is normal. I am hoping to have a much faster recovery than him....  Wow, I can't imaging being sick twice in one pregnancy, and man you must have been bummed that happened on vacation!

I just went through it too - made a call to my OB because I'm 37 weeks and couldn't keep down any liquid.  They had me come in for an IV to rehydrate the system.

The nurse was very adamant that when we're sick the "red" drinks are not good.  Something about the dyes being really hard to digest so I had to use the icky (to me) green gatorade.

Take care of yourself!
Happy and healthy!  What more could you ask for?
