Hi. I lurk on this board...my post op baby will actually be 5 in march but I felt the need tor respond to your post.
Almost a year ago I have a uterin biopsy and a few months later a cervical one. My uterine one was done with no pains or anxiety meds. I was so traumatized that when I had to go get a cervical one I was given both Valium and Demerol.
As to your pain, I suggest you call your doctors answering service and demand your doctor call you in a prescription for pain med and if you aren't on anxiety meds, perhaps one of them. After my uterine biopsy I took a 1 mg ativan (anxiety) and 800 mg of ibuprophen (I had DS, NSAIDS aren't a problem) and went to bed. I also used a heating pad on my abdomen. And I cried. A lot.
I posted a rather personal but humorous blog entry about my experience. If you would like to read it, let me know and I will share it with you.
As to conceiving, your WHOLE cervix isn't needed to conceive, but you will need to possibly plan for a c-section during delivery. In the meantime, perhaps it's time for you to find another OB/GYN. If your current one was this out of touch with your feelings I can't imagine you would want to be under her care while pregnant in the future.
I hope you feel better soon. Get some rest and stay off your feet for a day or two.

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes. I am out of control and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst...then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. ---Marilyn Monroe
My mom actually just had this done last week. They didn't numb her or anything. They did tell her that it would be very painful and to take motrin both before and after. I doubt that it would impact your fertility later on as you cervix is quite thick. If anything you might have to have a stich in your cervix if it were to dialate too early.
right now I'd worry more about the test results as there are other things that could impact your fertility later. Good luck! I hope they all come back normal!

I had an extensive LEEP procedure done about 10 years ago and was knocked out for it. Did you also have a LEEP? I was able to go on and have a healthy, term pregnancy after that. Call your Doc!
Hope you're feeling better soon.

I had the same tests and took some motrin and used a heating pad and tried to get active the next day and that helped some. I also used warm baths. I did not have any meds or numbing and I had a baby girl last November and am pregnant with twins now

It won't affect your ability to conceive or carry a baby, any risk that it might do so is far outweighed by the risk of cervical cancer.
This type of minor procedure does not generally involve any anasthesia or any relaxants. They do usually apply a little lidocaine to your cervix to numb a tiny bit, but it only helps a little. If you're having discomfort after the procedure, some OTC pain meds will probably help. Usually this is something you heal from very quickly.
I had a colposcopy some years ago followed by a cryo procedure to freeze a layer of cells off my cervix. A couple of years after that I had a leep excision to remove a chunk of cervix that had chronic inflammation. The only complication I experienced was that the scar tissue from the excision made it a little harder for my cervix to dilate. Thankfully, we have epidurals!

yeah they didnt use any numbing stuff at all, i talked to the nurse today because im still hurting a lot and she just said take midol, i did tell her it was very traumatic and that i will not come back for future vaginal procedures even neccesary ones unless they are willling to numb the area, im not asking for pain pills i just dont want to feel my area being sliced and diced. she seemed hesitant and i reminded her ive been a patient for 10 years and there are a lot of options for doctors in the area, she said she would put a note in my file and have the dr called me, after i talked to her she agreed to numb me in the future and possibly give me a 1 pill perscription for an anxiety medication to help calm me since i get very scared, im hoping the results come back fine and that isnt neccesary but at least they will do it my way if i need the freezing thing
