Cooper Update (I'm sure it will be long)
I will say, that when Drs talk about "should speak x# of words" by a certain age, it doesn't really apply to babies that are doing baby sign. Signs are words too! My BFF taught both her kids sign, they were able to comminicate when they were too young to really say the words. It really kept down frustration and worked.
Also, as far as weight gain, yeah, don't force weight gain. At one point, my son was in the FOURTH percentile. 4! He was growing and thriving normally, just a skinny toddler/baby. Always cross check the weight WITH the height. Remember there has to be a baby in the 4% to have a baby in the 96%. it is a bell curve!!! No reason to force food down their throats, if they are hungry they will eat. I had a friend who's baby was "only" in the 30th percentile, I used to watch her literally chase her child around the living room shoving pieces of chicken the toddlers mouth and with her baby she'd feed it spoons of food till it CRIED! Nothing was wrong with those kids..
Sometimes I feel like I should chase him around... today he ate about 15 grapes, one bite of cheese, 5 bites of a peanut butter sandwich and 4 bites of bannana - oh and a few Cheez-Its. THAT's IT.
I made him eggs w/ veggies and cheese for breakfast - nope. I made him chicken with rice and veggis for lunch - nope. (grapes were at lunch too). The peanut butter and bannana were after-nap snack. He didn't want dinner.
I don't know what else to do.... he's growing height wise just not gaining weight.
Oh well... so far I am not too worried. He's not losing weight!
Thanks for the reassurance.

I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. I sincerely hope he gets his transplant soon, I can't imagine how hard it must be to live without kidneys. For him AND you.

I DID Make It - 135.4 8-1-10! Now working on post baby weight loss. (All WL post-op - preop got up to 220 from quitting smoking & last supper syndrome.) 5'2"
I have a couple dozen between birth and then of him, though! Funny stuff.
I appreciate your thoughts and good will towards my husband!

The pedi we saw at 12 months said that signs count as words... and she wasn't worried.
But the one at 15 months was concerned and 18 months even more so (because they said he should be saying 2-3 word sentences - and he's not saying or signing them)
I might get him evaluated, because it's free, but I don't suspect they'll find him "30% delayed" which would qualify for therapy. So I'm not too worried.
Some people do say late talkers are smarter... so here's to our geniuses!
I can't believe Lydia is 18 months already! Wow...
