Psych meds and pregnancy questions??
Effexor was the first anti depressant I ever took, it helped but you're right it was hard to come off of!

it does help, I've read about certain meds being ok to take until the third trimester. I'm on Prozac, Klonopin, Tegratol and Seroquel. I'm weaning off the Seroquel because I don't like the way it makes me feel during the day. Tegratol and Klonopin are both unsafe to take during pregnancy and my OB is pretty certain I'll need to wean off them both and has me taking a lot of folic acid. I want to get a head start on taking care of this before I get pregnant so I won't have the added stress of weaning off them while pregnant!

Hi,
Same boat here. Long story but here it is.... always had anxiety & depression (even with counseling) growing up. Had my surgery in June 2005, got pregnant in Sept. 2005, had my daughter in June 2006, kicked him out in Sept 2006 then moved back home with Mom in Jan. 2007. Needless to say, I turned to drinking. Very bad. I did lose a great paying job & almost everything else but I was trying to quit and went to Detox 3 times. My last drink was July 2009. I spent over a year in counseling (my choice)... twice a wk., one for individual and one for group. I had changed my meds to 20mg of Lexapro & 150 mg of Wellbutrin SR. to 100mg of Zoloft due to the pregnancy.
While I still have some days that I'm not a patient as I'd like, it is basically a case of Mother's well being over the small risk. This was discussed by both my OB & my Family Dr. (he writes my scripts) who both are aware of my history.
It depends on what you & your Dr's feel is best & much more power to you if you can. Congrats!!

Thanks for sharing your story. I have read that Wellbutrin is one of the safest to take while pregnant but the last time I took it I ended up in VERY bad shape and was highly suicidal and more depressed than ever. I'm working closely with my Dr's and my therapist and have a solid support system around me. I've improved drastically since WLS and am more mentally stable now than I ever have been. I'm glad there's such a great support here and I know that I'll get honest answers from people who have been through this before! I'm grateful for this forum!
