So my husband and I battled infertility for about 5 years we got pregnant in 2009 but I had a miscarriage : (  We didn't have any luck conceiving after that then I had surgery in May 2010.  I am 8 months out from surgery and have lost 130 lbs at my highest weight.  We are not TTC but when we get the go ahead I'm ready lol  How should I prepare?  We are worried about having infertility issues again.  Any advice would be appreciated.  I also have a history of PCOS.  THANK YOU!!!

Congrats on your weight loss! I would have to say be sure to talk to your OB and be tested for the PCOS again. The only reason I say this is because I know a lot of times PCOS is cured or bettered thanks to loosing all the weight, but there are still cases where the PCOS is still there. I had it before surgery and still have it after surgery. I was told fertility aides were going to be my best and probably only bet, but this baby was a shock without any fertility treatments. Get yourself tested and have your hubby's swimmers checked and you'll know what you're working with. I hope you're one of the lucky ones who can conceive without the aides, but this way if you know beforehand you will know what route to go. Good luck with reaching your goal weight and when the time comes best wishes for that BFP!! :)

First of all, I don't know where you began, but I would recommend getting to goal (or as close as possible allotting for skin) before you begin. It puts you at your healthiest and will lessen the amount of weight you still have to loose after baby. Alot of us here are not at goal and have a much bigger number to tackle after we have our babies. That being said...

It is possible that some of your infertility problems may be eleviated after WLS. Sometimes that happens. That being said, before you start TTC, you should start a prenatal regimine and probably have a folic acid suppliment. Make an appointment with your OB/GYN and get checked out and possibly get your labs run to make sure that they are where they should be for pregnancy.

The most damage is often done to a developing child before the woman even knows that they are pregnant. Having a high (moderately) level of Folic acid can help prevent developmental problems and brain damage. A good level of iron has been linked to successful pregnancies in women with a history of miscarriage.

Good luck, and we'll see you back in a few months :)

I got the go-ahead to start TTC at 15 months out but I was at the same weight for over 6 months. I started taking a prenatal about 4 months before that. I replaced one multi with a prenatal. When we actually started trying I added folic acid, doesn't hurt to add that when you switch your multi. I was taking 2 multi's a day and just switched one. I don't have experience with PCOS, I'm sorry! Good luck!!

I have PCOS too. I am 3 months post a revision from band to sleeve. My DH and I tried TTC for about 6 months prior to my revision with no success. Now everything is on hold. MY PCOS is a HUGE ongoing concern of mine. Things seemed to be regulating somewhat, but now I am back to missing periods :(
I did not go on birth control pills after my revision because I so desperately wanted to track my natural cycles to see how they responded to the weight loss (we use other birth control methods.) So, I have seen a little improvment but I am far from normal. My hunch is that I need to lose more weight. I am hoping I continue to see my cycles regulate more. That is the main way I am preparing for a future pregnancy. I keep track of EVERYTHING! haha. That way when I am ready to TTC, if it is hard I can give all of the history to my OB so she can figure out what is going on.
I also make sure to keep up on my vitamins etc. so that I don't become deficient in anything. I want to be ready to TTC as soon as possible and not have to wait for my vitamin levels to come up before its safe.
Good luck!
