baby congestion help
Hi Everybody, I am hoping somebody has some advice.
Callen is 1 month old, and he has been congested for a couple of days. He has been to the doctor, who says his lungs are clear, its more in the back of his throat (probably from milk or something is his guess). No fever, bright and alert, no runny nose and still nursing. But it is driving him crazy. He is always doing this strange thing like he is trying to clear his throat.
I put him in a steam room and then take him outside in the cold (not close together, just throughout the day) as per docs instructions and it helps in the short term.
Any thoughts or ideas on what else I can do? The doctor says it bothers me more than him.
TIA,
Chrissy

They make special saline drops for babies (my pedi gave me some) that might help, but I don't know about it that young. Tristan was 3 months when he got sick with RSV for the first of many upper respiratory issues. Also, a humidifier helps and I just read something about using distilled water in it because it can cause contaminants in your water to become airborn which could irritate a newborn's sensative lungs. With Tristan I also put Vapor Rub on a wash rag and laid it across his abdomen- so he could have some vapors, but not too much and they say not to put it on young children. I also sucked out his mouth especially near the back so that I could get some of the drainage out. It seemed to help.
Good luck momma, sick babies are no fun.
