My husband and I tried to get preggers for 8+ years before my RNY with no success.  As soon as I went off the BC pills 1 year post-op I got pregnant right away.  Now I am a year after having given birth to my beautiful son and we are considering whether we should go for another right now or wait.  One of my major concerns with waiting is that I am 34 and having had so much trouble before the rapid weight loss, if now that I am not dropping loads of weight I will still be able to get pregnant so easily.  I know everyone is different but wondering what others experiences with this type of situation is?  Input much appreciated!

Amanda,

Each woman is different.  and as we all know... it's more than just the Mom involved here.  tee hee.  As long as your cycles are regular and you can clearly predict your ovulation then your body should be good to go.  Since you were able to ge pg right away 1 yr post-op that kinda indicates to me that both you and your DH are doing well.  Having a really hard time getting pg when we were morbidly obese is completely common.  Many obese women - myself included - do not even ovulate when we are 100+ overweight.

You're only 34.  You should still have several years of fertility in you.  I'm 40 and I got pg on the 1st time we did our AI back in Nov.  Unfortunately I had a MC.  But the point is, I was 15 mo post-op then, 40 yrs old, had dropped 130 lbs and was fertile myrtle.

You'll be fine I'm sure.  Just do what you can to get your timing down to DTD while you Ovulate. (easier for you than for me since I have a DW and not a DH and we did AI w/our donor.)

Good luck to you!
