Gah! Is it over yet?

So I'm 24 weeks.  Saw the OB today.  She said the following:

1) Drink more, your BP is too low (80s/60s - I know this is wrong, I can tell when it's in the 90s; the girl takin gmy BP did it wrong.)  Ok I run low anyway so I do agree that I need to drink more.

2) Your cervix is anterior now, showing that you've been contracting.  Drink more.

3) Take it easy.  Ok, seriously?  I'm a nurse on  night shift, which is MUCH easier than day shift (which I'll be switching back to soon).  Since I'm on nights, I sleept a TON while I'm at home, and don't do squat while I am awake in the house since everyone else is alseep.  I rarely even run errands now!  What else can I do to "take it easy"?!

4) I have decided that maternity pants are of the devil.  The band sits right on my pouch, which makes it hurt.

I'm so not cut out for this pregnancy mess!  I know some love it, but not me!

One good thing is that I've finally started to gain weight!

Ok so what you need is to go a nail place that is open til like 9pm at the mall.. Drinking a big gulp of water.. and get yourself a mani/pedi.

Best advice I have.. Oh besides.. I work night shift too and some nights can be mad crazy..don't give day shift all that credit. I bet you work your butt off.

Oh I have busy nights, but at least I get a lunch break, I ddint' get many of those on days!  It's a matter of the assistants helping (or not!) on the different shifts.  However, I have more patients on nights, but DONT have admissions and discharges (just an occasional admission).  The girls on nights are AWESOME.  Everyone helps everyone else out, whereas on days it's so cahotic it's fend for yourself.

Are you a nurse too?

Yep I am a peds nurse. And we get flooded with admissions.. but we tend to have less staff. Never have an US and sometimes no PCA. It can be harder on nights on peds if we have alot of babies with no mothers who need feeding 2-4 hours. But there is a plus side of no director looking over your shoulder.

YES!  My only complaint about nights is that I don't see my family.  As far as work goes, it's ideal!  (I work a surgical unit.)

Oh you can't say you don't work when I am sure you have the morphine Q1 hour on 5 or more pts. And the pain assess and reassess..yeah..I bet you get busy too.

Go for the mani/pedi!!

Quite.  My favorite is when the Dr comes in & transferres the pt to another floor at 0645.  Or the dressing change that takes 2 hours.  Yes, I had one of those.  Ostomy care + multiple diabetic ulcers = 2 hour dressing change.  My God that night was horrible.  I bust my heiney to get out of there no later than 730, 745 tops.  Then there are some nights where the patients ask for their Ambien with their morphine.  I love those guys.

I am also an RN that works the night shift.  Personally since this pregnancy it has been a blessing because its not as chaotic as first or second shift.  One question I have for you night shifters is how do you balance your meals?  do you eat at night during work?

I eat the entire shift.  Helps me stay awake!  Plus, it's the only time I'm awake long enough to shovel in an adequate amount of food.
