I have to go to a orthopedic for shoulder pain

I have had shoulder pain since september of 2010 but lately i cant sleep at night the dr said it was buritisis (sp sry) or torn rotor cuff he gave me pain meds (1 tylenol 3 at bedtime for pain) they arent working so i called him back now i have to see a specialist geeze i was hoping for physical therapy

My dad has bursitis in his shoulder/ collar bone areas... it's really painful and a friend of mine has a torn rotator cuff. She has to get cortizone shots in order to function and she says that the only thing that will touch it is flexerall.

Wow, that sucks. Be sure you are taking your calcium citrate and extra D3. There is even some mega-calcium IV drip you can get once a year at the hospital. It's probably not related but the calcium helps keep the bones healthy and strong. Good luck and hope you feel better!

A friend who I went to nursing school with had bursitis in her hip. She ended up getting the cortizone shots once a month. She said it was a god send.

Usually they will start with the easier things first. Cotizone or pt. They tried that on my hubby. My son who was 15 had broke off the little bone on the back of the shoulder that kept his should in the socket so they did not try anything before surgery. for my knee they just suggested pt for awhile after cortizone did not work out very well but then I found out I was pregnant so waiting till after babies to figure out what we go back to

i cant see the dr until the 31st of jan and i dont know anything they can do the shots i have tried for a heel spur they made me worse so i dont want to take the injections i am praying for physical therapy

Hi!  I'm a physical therapist....just wanted to ease your mind. The specialist will probably just determine what the problem actually is, and they almost always opt for therapy before surgery unless it is a COMPLETE tear of the rotator cuff.  Don't panic just yet.  :-)
