Protein drinks while pregnant??

Hi there. I am thinking I may need to start supplementing my proteins, I know I am not getting in enough, meat it still very hard to get in (just since i've been pregnant). I eat a little bit and get sick of it. I was reading up and they are saying that Whey protein is better because it's derived from natural products and there are tests that have been done on SOY saying it could cause problems. Does anyone else drink protein drinks? I am from Canada also, so I have different options up here. Pretty picky if it doesn't taste good it won't go down lol. Thanks in advance for any info :)

I've been supplementing with protien drinks, but the only thing I can tolerate SOMETIMES is Muscle Milk....the RTD kind.  I like it because it's low in sugar, gives me more calories, and made with whey protein (b/c it is better absorbed by us than soy or caseinate).  Good luck to you! :)

The only kind of protein drinks that I could ever drink are IsoPure. They have an amazing chocolate one. I make them with half milk instead of water and I add ice so they're like a milkshake.

From what I understand of the soy debacle is this. Too much Soy can cause a decrease in normal hormone production. It has also been linked in high doses to breast cancer, especially in men. there is great concern about children who are on soy formula and then soy milk for lactose intolerance.

That being said I still drink soy milk, I can't hold down lactose free milk. However, I took my son off of it and put him on Rice milk. I talked to my pedi about it and he said that rice milk is a good option. He said that the studies are still a little on the inconclusive side and that he was comfortable still letting Tristan have soy milk, but if it would ease my mind, enriched Rice milk would do just as well. So every blue moon Tristan gets a little soy, but for the most part he does rice. His formula was lactose free with rice starch, not soy, so I'm not that worried. From what I've researched, it's like anything else, about moderation.

Be careful with Protein drinks during pregnancy, sometimes they can lead to ketosis and that's not good for baby. :) Good luck.

Hi Chrissy,

I am from Canada as well, and I get a banana flavored drink from popeyes. I add milk and mango and it tastes just like a smoothie. I used to have one everyday for my morning snack, and I am just getting back into the habit. Also when I miss a meal I will drink the ensure diabetic. Not as good, but it will fill me up when I don't have enough time to eat.
I always used Whey protein only.

My surgeon recommended only whey protein when I had my VSG so that is the kind I've tried. My fave is chocolate Pure Protein ready-made shakes. They sell them by the case in cans at Vitamin Shoppe. I've had them throughout the pregnancy. My OB actually recommended it to help me with my weight gain - lol.

I started at 324lbs and a size 26.  After losing 100 lbs, I became pregnant with my first daughter, who was born in March 2011.  My second daughter was born in September 2013.  I have maintained a healthy lifestyle and now hover around 160lbs.  I would like to get back to the 140lbs before I became pregnant with my second daughter.  The sleeve literally gave me LIFE - two beautiful, healthy little girls.  My husband had his VSG with Dr. Marema on 10/1/2012 and is on his weight loss journey, currently down 90lbs.
