What happens if you're sick when you deliver?
I'm 37 weeks tomorrow, and dilated to 1cm. Wouldn't you know it, I managed to catch a freakin' cold. I had the same thing over Christmas, so I'm taking my Robitussin and praying to God that it doesn't last long. Of course, tomorrow is my baby shower and I'll look like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in all my pics. *sigh*
My question is, what happens if you're sick when you deliver? Do they quarantine you from your baby? Do they give you or the baby some kind of medicine? Are you still allowed to take the baby home?
Thanks!

I doubt any medical pros would worry about a cold. The only concern I'd have with a cold would be if you had a c-section, because coughing hard after one of those is miserable. But you can get decent pain meds and hold a pillow to your incision and you'd survive.
I doubt they would quarantine you from your baby unless the baby had to go to the NICU, where you might expose extra-vulnerable newborns if you went in sick.
One plus to breastfeeding is that even if your baby gets sick, she or he may get a minor version of whatever you have. My daughter rarely got sick, but she was my only at the time. She brings home lots of germs now and my 1-month-old son has had sniffles already, poor little guy, but they have been really mild compared to my daughter's symptoms.

Yep, this is my first. Everyone keeps saying that I won't make it to my due date... but I dunno. I don't really feel any different today than I did 2 weeks ago. She hasn't "dropped" but some women don't drop until labor, so that's not really an indication of anything, lol. I'm just going with the flow and trying to be as prepared as possible.
