Could I have had a misdiagnosed miscarriage?
So here's my story.. I am wondering if the ER DR could have misdiagnosed me. This is the post I posted on a website for misdiagnosed miscarriages.. and I know everyone on this website is honest and will tell me if I am just holding on to wishful thinking...
Ok.. on 1/1/2011, I took an at home pregnancy test that came up positive.. I naturally didn't believe it because we had been trying for 10 years to have another child, so I went and bought 4 more ( yes, I know that's kinda extreme, but I wanted to be sure) I took all of them.. and they all said yes (positive) I made an appointment with my doctor and went and she done a urine pregnancy test that came up negative. She then done a blood test and on 1/4/11 I got the results that I was "about 3 weeks pregnant" with an HCG level of 65. I was excited! That afternoon, I began to "spot" some brownish colored blood, I was told this is implantation bleeding. When all that went away, me and my husband had sex. The very next morning (1/8/11) I woke up to bright red blood. Scared I went straight to the ER. The ER doctor said he was going to draw blood to compare with my results from my family doctor and do an ultrasound to make sure the baby was ok. He drew the blood and an hour later came in and said my HCG level was at an 8, so I was miscarrying. He sent me home and told me to see my OB ( I already had an appointment with my OB on Friday 1/14/11 since I was pregnant so I just kept that appointment). He gave me no lab work and nothing at all proving that my level was 8. Well.. I am still bleeding, red blood, just not real heavy. I was curious so I went to town today, after I cried all day saturday and Sunday and bought another at home pregnancy test. I took it.. and it showed a faint line in the "pregnant" spot. Now I am researched misdiagnosed miscarriages and found out that there are alot of reasons you can be misdiagnosed, one of them being dehyration, which I know I am, simply because I had gastric bypass RNY and find myself not drinking enough water. So... I guess my question is.. has anyone experienced this? Do I have hope that I may still be pregnant? or am I just wishfully thinking?

It sounds like you need to have a conversation ASAP with your OBGYN. Or see if there is another dr in that group. It does not (and has not since your 1st post) seem like these doctors are on the ball. This could have been a chemical pregnancy. They should have taken your HCG level at your 1st dr appt, given you the results within hrs (I always got mine within hrs) and had you go back 2 days later to see if they were doubling. Had they done that they could have prepared you more for what they knew would inevitably happen. I do not think you are pregnant based on the info you gave. You need to have your levels drawn about a week after the miscarriage, If they are not going down fast enough, it may mean you need a D&C. I'm so sorry for you hon I know this is not what you wanted to hear. Please consider changing doctors before TTC agaain because this one sounds very unprofessional.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss and I can imagine how frustrating it is dealing with all this aside from your grief.
Best wishes.

So the ER doctor never did an u/s? just bloodwork? ER doctors rarely have much OB/GYN experience, he may have misread your bloodwork and wihout an u/s to comfirm, I would be suspisious too.
I don't want to give you false hope but if I were you I'd keep that appointment with my OB and ask for a follow-up u/s AND bloodwork. At the very least it'll give you some peace of mind.
Be sure to update us! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.
((hugs))

Depending on the pee stick sensativity it could still be picking up on the dropping HCG. Even if the Dr had little OB/GYN experience the HCG results are very clear. They give you a number. If you were 65 then went down to 8 its clear your numbers are lower than before.
That being said I would want comfirmation just so you have piece of mind. New labs and an U/S will confirm and give the Dr's the info needed to know how to help you best. The labs might have taken longer for you because your insurance might require your blood to be sent to a lab like Quest or Labcorp. They have standard pricing so insurance will pay it unlike Dr's pricing which varies. There is a longer turn around time for the send out blood if that is the case. Also your Dr can call the hospital to get a copy of your ER record so they can see your lab results.
Call your Dr for an emergency appointment. I would want to have things known ASAP. The stress isnt good for you one way or another.
I hope this helps and I am so sorry that you have to go through this.

To me it sounds like you had a very early miscarriage. It sucks, but one way to look at it (sigh..) is that you've been trying all this time to get PG and now your body is starting to get to the point of being able to GET pregnant, new trick is getting it to keep a pregnancy. Talk to Dr about what you want to do for future tries.
