Unplanned pregnancy
Even though it's unexpected, Grats!
I was 9 month out from VSG when I found out I was pregnant despite having a Mirena IUD in place- talk about a shock!
First thing- Find a good OB or MW who is familiar with WLS, or at least comfortable with taking on a post-WLS mama and not just slapping you with a "high risk" label like some doctors do.
Second- Get in touch with your surgeon and have them refer you to a nutritionist who is failiar with pregnancy post WLS.
If your surgeon can't, ask your OB. Either way you want to make sure you're getting plenty of vitamins carbs and calories for both you and your babe.
Don't freak out if you continue to loose weight, at least at first- it's totally normal. You're not going to hurt the baby if you loose weight (there's at least 1 post a week from someone freaking out about loosing weight early in pregnancy).
((hugs)) there are plenty of mamas on here that have found themselves in the same place as you, try to relax. The majority go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies and babies.

Thanks LSU. I had an IUD too and was so confident that it was doing its job that even my husband bought the pregnancy test "to put my mind at ease" neither of us expecting a positive result. When I went for the scan I kept thinking that the test must have been wrong! Imagine my surprise when the technician showed me a beating heart! It was indeed a shock! In addition I am over 40 and my gyn recently told me that my chances of getting pregnant were down to 5% because of my age! We already have three kids and really weren't planning for more but I guess we will now have a family of six.
Thanks for the advice and commiseration tho. It helps alot. Will keep you posted.

Congrats!!! My first daughter was unplanned, and I was not in a good place in life, but I tell you sometimes I think she was sent just to put me back in order. I am a 3 year out bander so not much from me. But I do know there are other ladies on the board who are pregnant and much sooner out from surgery. I know in the past they have mentioned talking to your Dr about labs to make sure you vitamins are all in check, and make sure you take what you need. Good luck!

Thanks Music, how far out are you i.e. post-VSG? I am one year post-VSG and TTC. The nutritional guidelines I have been told to follow when we conceive are as follows:
100g protein
100g carbs
100oz water
1500-1800 calories
You will probably need to eat every 2 hours to make this happen. We got pregnant in October but miscarried at 8 weeks and it was very difficult to get the calories/carbs/protein in---even the water---because I was so sick. (This could have been the miscarriage or morning sickness--not sure) but I kept trying and I know I would have eventually worked out a system to make it happen.
Best of luck to you and congratulations on your pregnancy!!
