Glucose Testing Question
I will be 30 weeks pregnant Friday.
I had an early Glucose test at 10 weeks and it was normal. I had a repeat on Monday and it came back over 200. So here I am again with Gestational Diabetes. I received my testing meter this morning and I am a little confused. This morning was super busy so on the way to the doctor all I had time for was a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant from Burger King and a Tall Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks. I tested at the doctor and my blood sugar was 94. The diabetes education class took 4 hours and I was starving afterwards so I stopped to get a Ceasar Wrap which I only ate half of (with a few fries) and a Diet lemonade. Tested 2 hours later and it was 96. For dinner I had turkey, rice, side salad with Italian dressing, a roll, and asparagus. Blood sugar was 93.
My question is does this seem right? If I am diabetic shouldn't my sugars be elevated eating croissants and fries?? I did no exercise today so I wasn't using the excess sugars. With my first pregnancy I struggeled to get my diabetes under control with just diet. This one seems simple with just a regular diet. Not that I am complaining. I don't mind going on the diet if it's necessary but the amount of food the dietician wants me to eat is WAY more than what I would comsume after having VSG.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering since the liquid that I drank for the Glucose test is so sweet is it the way it is absorbed in my little tummy to cause the test results to be over 200.
Thanks,
Brooke

That's my point. My fasting sugar should be between 60-95. So far my sugars are in that range after I eat. After I eat they should be under 120.

I was always told the glucose test isnt accurate with us, so most people on this board don't even take it - especially because it can cause severe dumping!
I have have 2 post-op babies. First one, I just took my fasting sugar levels with a meter for about 3 days and my sugar levels 2 hours after each meal. Second baby, the dr. just had me come in a took a fasting A1C in the morning and went with that. To me, it doesn't sound like you are diabetic, but I am not a dr.
I would call your dr. office and let them know your results and see what they say.

I agree that the traditional glucose tolerance test isn't accurate with us post ops. I've also had 2 post op babies and with both pregnancies I did a fasting glucose and then ate a regular meal then tested again 1 hr later (known as a fasting and 1 hr post prandial test). Although my glucose levels weren't made known to me I was told by my OB that they were very normal and that I need not worry about GD. You might want to test again using a different method.
