weight loss DURING pregnany?
Anyone had weight loss continue through their pregnancy? my Dr. is starting to be concerned, as am I. I was 18 months post-op when concieved, weight at 185-ish (happy with weight, but probably not as low as I could go I suppose.. i'm 5'7"![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif)
i dropped slowly in 1st trimester to 175 lbs.
then 2nd trimester, had a bit of the flu.. down to 168 lbs was lowest. Then gained a little .. and then lost. then gained.. last Dr. appointment was 177, which she said was good (previous appnt weighed in at 175) and i need to keep gaining, not loosing!
i just started my 3rd trimester- i'm weighing at 170-172ish now! UUUGh! got any suggestions?? next appointment is on Thursday! Im eating all the time (grazing and meals) although, i cant stomach protein shakes. (YUCK)
I really dont want my Dr. to do anything drastic, like put me on bed rest! :0 I seem to be measuring ok she said, although a lot of people said that i dont look like i'm nearly 7 months yet (this is my 2nd child)

Baby #1= Starting weight 268, ending weight before delivery 230
Baby #2= Starting weight 280, ending weight (34 weeks) 250
Baby #3= Starting weight 312, ending weight (32 weeks) 275
This pregnancy is my first post op pregnancy, but I am continuing the trend and have lost consistantly. 220 when I found out I was pregnant, and 208 as of this morning. My OB has always told me that as long as baby is growing and developing at proper rate, our own weight loss/gain isn't as important.

Never fails, every single time I see your Avatar I think it is MM posting.
Because your weight started out so high with your pre-op pregnancies I think it was somewhat healthy to lose weight during the pregnancy (though it was a lot of weight you lost). I am sure you were still eating for baby. What do you think happened for the weight loss? Nauseous? Sick? Loss of appetite?
Best,
Leila

My first it was 100% morning sickness, the entire pregnancy. I was sick multiple times a day, and it was on a Naval Base hospital and the doctor felt if I was loosing and baby was gaining, it was something that was supposed to happen. The other pregnancies I didn't have any sickness, and still lost weight. I didn't change any of my eating habits. The way my nutritionists explained it is baby was taking from me to feed itself, and that was enough to cause the weight loss. I regained immediately after having each of them. My surgeon this time around said same thing though, because I thought same as you mentioned it was my high weights that made it "safe" and he corrected me. Said that as long as baby is growing, I am taking vitamins, my actual body weight has no bearing on the baby unless its severe gain. I can't explain it, just know I have had 3 different OBs, and now a surgeon tell me that so I am not too worried that I am loosing again this time around. I am grateful it isn't at the same rate as before though!
Don't do that! It's a nice pic! My best friend for the first time in her life lost her double chin during pregnancy. She lost and not gained too. It was a very fragile pregnancy. She too for the first time in her life was watching her diet like crazy AND she was sick almost the entire pregnancy.
Since I am always chunky, I wouldn't mind NOT gaining during my someday pregnancy. I won't go as far as saying losing BUT I think it would be acceptable as long as I ate nutritiously. Baby don't get what I eat, baby get what I got - I just do the job of replenishing.

Oh, my best friend gained right after the pregnancy and got and is bigger than ever. My Brother in laws daughter did the same, she lost during pregnancy and even more while nursing then she got bigger than ever
. I'll do without the 2nd part.
Hey, I need to be around someone like you that is not afraid of having babies. I'm terrified of pregnancy and labor etc.!

I had this happen during my pregnancy. I was told to drink Ensure or Carnation Instant Breakfast since I didn't like protein shakes. She also said that as long as baby is measuring OK she wouldn't put me on bedrest but the minute he started measuring small on to bed rest I would go. So I choked down a couple ensures a day and he always measured on track...so she was happy. I did only end up gaining 2 lbs total.
I am almost 28 weeks and have only gained 9lbs..she said that the baby is measuring fine, but I really need to start eating. I have had an eating disorder since my RNY 2 years ago...I never thought I couls get pregnant so I never gave it a thought. I am trying to drink protein shakes and I get so sick to even look at them, never mind food....
It's a girl !! Robyn Marie...!
March 31 6lbs 12 oz 19 3/4 in

I lost most of my last pregnancy. Toward the end I gained some. I would go up and down a little at a time. Total weight gain 12 pounds. Baby was just fine
I went into labor and the nurse thought I was only 4 months along cause I did not have much of a belly at all. I would tell them as long as baby is growing fine bedrest will just drive you nuts

I just came into this website for the first time in many months to ask this question, but found this thread first.
I am 18 months post sleeve gastrectomy and am almost 14 weeks pregnant. Prior to this pregnancy I had lost 80 pounds and was weighing 231. As a result of my small stomach size, combined with nausea (but no vomitting) and increased metabolism I am now down to 220.4. So I have lost almost 11 pounds since being pregnancy.
I am finding it almost impossible to eat nutritiously. I eat one decent meal a day in the evening and then eat toast and crackers during the day. I am also finding it hard to drink enough fluid so am having powerade a few times a week, when i feel like I am really getting behind and need to catch up.
My gp told me that it is normal for overweight women to lose weight whilst pregnant and not to worry about it as long as I am taking my vitamins and trying to eat and drink as well as I can.
