Just found out I'm pregnant! Fill question...
Hi Ladies,
I had Lap-Band surgery in August. I just found out a few days ago that I am pregnant! It's earlier than we originally planned, but we're very happy.
For anyone out there with a band, did you get any fills during the beginning of pregnancy? Did you have to get unfilled? I have an appointment tomorrow for a potential fill. I'll probably post-pone it but I'm just wondering what experience others had with fills and unfills during pregnancy.
Thanks!

It is a bad idea to continue to fill - what about morning sickness and puking? Or bloating?
If you are not too tight, you may want to stay as you are. Then play it by ear througout the rest of the pregnancy. Unfill if you need to. You need to get good nutrition besides that, you probably want a working band post-pregnancy.
All the very best to you,
Leila
Hey Jaime-
Congrats on your BFP! It's probably not a good idea to go for a fill right now... especially since your band is still relatively new. I recommend staying in touch with your surgeon's office throughout your pregnancy because of that reason.
I have a 10cc band and I had 8cc's in it when I got pregnant. I ended up getting half of my fluid taken out because as the baby grew, I developed shoulder pain from my band being too tight. Since my unfill, I've gained about 50 pounds... and I haven't gone crazy with the food, either!
My surgeon recommended getting unfilled upon finding out I was pregnant, but I initially declined the unfill because I had no nausea or complications. Then once I got to about 20 weeks, I had to get some fluid taken out because I just couldn't stand the shoulder pain any more. Up to that point, I didn't gain an ounce!
Good luck!

I got pregnant a little earlier than planned myself. Fortunately I never had a fill up to that point. By chance I had an appointment with my surgeon the day I found out. He basically stated good luck see you when the baby is born. I have not had any weight gain to date with the baby but I did gain 4 lbs right before I found out I was pregnant. Good luck and have a happy 9 months!
Be conservative about fills udring pregnancy since your body will be going through so many wacky changes. things like fluid retention due to hormones can make a BIG difference in your restriction level. I was a lot further out than you when I got pregnant and at a good fill level. I had a small unfill around week 8 when my nausea got really bad and then had most of that put back at week 14 when it cleared up. other than that, I didn't mess with it and my restriction could still vary quite a bit day to day. I gained around 22 lbs over the course of the pregnancy, but was only up 4 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight when I left the hospital. Don't stress too much about the weight gain unless it is so much that it worries your doctor.
