Advice Needed!!
I have RNY 7 months ago and have lost 107 lbs.. I have a daughter (1 year old today). My husband and I are thinking of trying for baby number 2 around June/July of this year ... which will put me a little over a year out of surgery.
So here are my questions...
1 - Do you think we are waiting long enough to starty trying? It took me almost 5 years to get pregnant with my daughter (which I am sure had alot to do with my weight)... so we want to start trying in June/July... in case it takes us a few months to conceive.
2 - How much did you gain after WLS with your pregnancy and was that extra weight hard to loose after you had your baby?
Thanks
Kristen

We tried for 7 months to get pregnant, we started before the doctors recommendation because I knew it was going to take a while due to PCOS. So I have not had the baby yet, but I have gained about 50lbs, and I plan to crack down on myself after he gets here! So no answer yet on how hard or long to take it off.
I too have been diagnosed with PCOS... but the only symptoms I ever had was irregular cycles and infertility... and since I have has WLS I have been regular for the past 5 months...My daughter was out of the blue and a total miracle! We were told we would never be able to have children without fertility treatments... but we have her on our own... so I am not sure if I still have PCOS or what...
How far out from surgery were you when you conceived? Are you considred high risk? Have you had any problems?

Hi there! Well, in my account I was also diagnosed with PCOS years ago. I was also told that without fertility treatments it would be highly impossible. After successfully reaching my goal weight, the PCOS was not gone and did not lighten up any either. I still experienced all the side effects including irregular if any periods. This pregnancy was a complete and total shock for me! I regulary every 3 months took a cycle of bc to induce my period, but this time around my last period was in March, started bc in June (after a BFN) and then in July was due for my period and surprise- BFP!!! I had no clue my body even ovulated. I'm 4 years out now from surgery myself. I think discussing your time frame with your surgeon is your best bet. Every surgeon seems to be different and sometimes we reach goal weights slower or even faster than first thought. Be sure to discuss your situation with the surgeon and keep track of your weight loss and goal plans and go from there. The 12-18 months window is just that- a window and every case is different.
As for my weight gain thus far...I've gained 20-22lbs so far at 32 weeks. I did not know it but I am in fact considered high risk and I'm not exactly sure why as I have no health issues other than starting out at a heavier weight than I would have liked to. I lost around 140lbs total and maintained for a good year before the regain began. I have no other problems or troubles through this pregnancy other than the minor complaints. My sugar, vitamins, and blood pressure are in great shape and I've even managed to quit smoking!
So, every person and every surgeon is different, but I do want to say I think you're very intelligent for knowing that waiting is so important and taking the time to research it now. Get the answers ahead of time and just have yourself prepared for when the time comes. Best of luck to you!! :)

Definitely talk to your WLS surgeon. Mine said I could TTC 15 months post op, and I'm 40 so my OBGYN wanted me to get pg sooner rather than later. My WLS surgeon would have preferred that I wait at least 18 months post op. I did conceive but just had a MC. So we're going to try again in a couple of cycles.
Congrats on the 107 lbs lost in just 7 months! That's fantastic. Go talk to your WLS surgeon.

I am so sorry to hear that. Do you know if the MC had anything to do with your WLS? That is my biggest fear... Many women try for several months to get pg... part of that time probably includes MC's and the recovery time. It happens to all types of women... WLS or not. Honestly, you might want to let go of that fear. MC's happen and there is nothing that we as the PG Mom can do to prevent it. As long as you're healthy and both your OBGYN and your WLS surgeon give you the green light to get pg... then go for it.

Oh Maryn, I didn't know you'd had an MC! I am so sorry. I had 2 so I know how hard it is.
