baby's head shape...help!
yes, you put the ankle weight kind of resting on his little shoulder between his head and the car seat. I think you can even get ankle weights at Wal-mart. Whenever he was in his car seat, or laying down on the floor on a blanket or even in his bassinet or crib we used the weight. We even made sure the sitter / daycare knew how important it was that it had to be used all of the time. When he was even in his swing he used it. As long as he wasn't looking right-it was good! Ideally he needed to be looking left, but we were happy with straight ahead or left.
He only seemed like he minded just a little bit the 1st day, like he wasn't sure he liked it very much. The dr. explained that his neck muscles were "trained" that way. After the 1st day, he was fine with it. We also made sure to only feed him in our right arm, so he was looking left.
As far as sliding--it only tended to slide a little in the car seat. We would just re-adjust it. It there is a lot of room, you could put a rolled receiving blanket as a wedge between the weight and car seat to make it a snug fit to keep it from sliding.
I know my husband and I were pretty freaked out about it at first--this being our 3rd kid but our first with anything like this. We didn't want to have to "experience" a helmet, so we were pretty vigilant about the whole keeping the head turned constantly.
I just know when we took him back in for his 4 month check--she just kept going on and on about how near "perfect" he looked! She said she had never had a baby that severe turn around that much in that short of time. It was like she kept looking at him from all angles to see if she could find some imperfection!
I would recommend the ankle weights--they definately do help keep their little heads turned the right direction, otherwise it seems like everytime you turn it one way-he will turn it back!
BTW---I too felt terrible! We had a "bad habit" of feeding our little man in one particular spot on our sectional which happened to be the left arm, and I always wondered if that was how it started to get "lopsided"...I guess I will never know for sure...
ps...It seems to me I remember from back when you said you were brand new pregnant-you were in Nebraska--If you are anywhere near the Omaha/Bellevue area-I have a pair of ankle weights I would give you!

Debbie,
Thanks for your encouraging words!! You're right, I'm extremely anxious about this and feel so guilty!
When I put him down in the night to sleep (all 4 times LOL), he'd be out cold and I would lay him on his left side with a rolled up receiving blanket behind him. I'd go check a little later, and he'd be flat on his back with his head turned to the right!! I'm about ready to tilt his crib one direction so he CAN'T roll to the right!!
Thanks for the offer on the weights, but I live in south central Nebraska. I'll check WalMart tomorrow. Of course, I'll have to get my husband on board with the idea, he thinks it sounds cruel. I tried to tell him it's not near as bad as the helmet seems like it would be!
Thanks again,
Kina
