Am I Dumping or is it Morning Sickness?

Hi OH Friends,

I used to be a regular on the Ontario Forum for WLS and haven't posted for a long time.  I am so new to this forum but know that the support that OH will be important as I navigate the journey of pregnancy post-WLS.

I had my RNYsurgery in October of 2008.  It was successful and I have been enjoying life post-WLS.  I am now 7 weeks pregnant and have many questions!

As a post-RNY patient, I continue to experience dumping syndrome.  It is both a blessing and a pain.  It keeps me in line, that is for sure, but it can also be a real interruption to life.  I do not "dump" on a regular basis, but when I do, it is harsh.

I am wondering if any other RNY'ers have experienced dumping in early pregnancy.  I am trying to determine whether I am indeed dumping or whether I am succumbing to morning sickness.  Nausea immediately after eating is often a first signal for a dumping episode.  I seem to be feeling that a lot more lately.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Jenn

Great question Jenn. I am also a dumper and my experience is I'm getting both. My morning sickeness is making me dump. I know it's morning sickness because for me it starts in the afternoon and it's been weeks since supper has stayed down.
Congrats and good luck.

We have the same due date!! I'm fortunate in that I don't dump and I haven't had terrible morning sickness. Wishing you the best!!

VTBRNGIRL,

It is so cool that we have the same due date!  Whoa!  When did you find out you were pregnant?

Thank you Dawn!  I think I am getting both too.  I don't know.  I guess I;ve got to put my WLS MD on the prenatal team!  I am a little worried because I have such an aversion to food right now.  This is my first pregnancy and my mom has mentioned that while she was pregnant with me, she was pretty sick with morning sickness and had to be hospitalized as a result.  She was only 22!  I am 37 and this trimester is really kicking my butt!

Thank you again!  I will keep you posted.

JENNNNNNN  that's fantastic news, I'm so thrilled for you.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you but I did have to take diclectin for the first twelve weeks to help with the Nausea.

Congrats again,

Kel!  I thought I would find you on this forum.  I am very excited about the pregnancy and of course I am hyper-worried about every symptom.  I see the OB on Tuesday for the first ultrasound and will hopefully be a bit more relaxed after that.  Who is your OB?  When are you due?

I haven't made my announcement public yet - well, family and a few friends know (Tanya knows) because I can't keep a secret to save my life!  Most of my FB friends don't know yet.  I am glad you do because you are awesome when it comes to advice and support.

I am thinking that I may need to go on modified bedrest for the first trimester.  I have found that I can do only about one thing a day before I begin to feel like total crap-on-toast.  I am really worried about going back to school next week given that my job keeps me very busy from 8AM until 3:30 - I sometimes don't even get the chance to eat.  I want to do what is best for the bebe but also what is best for the kids at my school - I really do not feel up to the challenge right now!

I will keep you posted.  Diclectin may be what I need.  Gravol doesn't help at all and I am losing weight.  Not massive amounts of weight, just a couple of pounds, but come on, it was Christmas and I lost a couple of pounds?

BTW "Dejeuner-" great name!  Maybe that lady's second bebe will be called "Souper."

Happy new Year hon,

Jenn
